ok...maybe i did not explain myself properly.I'm from Singapore and the climate is always hot and sunny there.I was only thinking of placing a dog crate at our porch where it is cool and dry.
The main reason we want to get a dog crate is because my lab mix gets really frantic when it rains and thunders comes about. So,if you have any tips on how to calm him down please tell me

i honestly don't think its a good move. crates are for training purposes and not anything else. for keeping puppies from getting into things when you aren't around.
if you want to keep your dog outside, temporarily for sunshine & air..........either fenced in kennel (10foot x 10foot) ........or lead with nothing in the way of the radius.........
i have put my puppy on the porch with a 10 foot leed and can't get into anything. but only for a 15 minute period while i , lets say..........was cleaning out the car.......etc.

Why do want to put it outdoors, what is the climate where you live, and do you want to put a dog in it??

Basically, the answer would be no. A crate is used for indoor kenneling to keep a puppy or injured dog safe when you are not able to watch it. It should be used for short periods in these times only. With the door left open, after being crate trained a dog will use it as it's sleeping quarters by choice, It is not suitable for locking a dog up outside.

No

Your dog is a member of the family and should be treated just as one. This time of year it is getting cold out, where I live we have had a freeze already. Don't you dare put that dog outside. If anyone sould go out it is you.

Please listen to "Sue J" and "Jabberbo..." They know what they are talking about! Don't use a crate, unless your dog is injured, and needs to be kept down, so he/she can get well! Good Luck, you got some good advise with these two!!

trade it in for a kennal then. To keep a dog outside you need a kennal not a crate

Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of having a crate?
