And I quote:

Leviticus 21:17-24 - "Say to Aaron: 'For the generations to come none of your descendants who has a defect may come near to offer the food of his God. No man who has any defect may come near: no man who is blind or lame, disfigured or deformed; no man with a crippled foot or hand, or who is hunchbacked or dwarfed, or who has any eye defect, or who has festering or running sores or damaged testicles. No descendant of Aaron the priest who has any defect is to come near to present the offerings made to the LORD by fire. He has a defect; he must not come near to offer the food of his God. He may eat the most holy food of his God, as well as the holy food; yet because of his defect, he must not go near the curtain or approach the altar, and so desecrate my sanctuary. I am the LORD, who makes them holy.' " So Moses told this to Aaron and his sons and to all the Israelites.

Whats that all about?

Isn't it amazing that people are answering saying god is love after reading that yet offering no explanation at all of this clear evidence to the contrary right out of the bible?

Religion really is a kind of mental illness.

Aaron ( the brother of Moses ), is the lineage through which the priest came.

only certain people were allowed to be in the part of the temple that contained the ark of the covenant.

this is because this was where God was.

there were very strict rules as to who could go there.

it does not mean that someone that was crippled was hated by God, it means they for some reason were not qualified to do that task.

What you need to understand here is traditional Jewish customs and laws of the society that this was being spoken to. Do some research on the subject of Biblical Ancient Jewish practices concerning the handicapped in their society and what it meant *to them*... I know the answer to your question, and I could just tell you, but I don't really think anyone comes here with a question that tries to derail the Christian God and really wants an answer instead of a debate. I'm not accusing you of that, but you have to admit that is the goal of 90% of the questions here. So if you actually take the time to do some studying on the issue, please e-mail me with some of your facts and I can help you relate it to this passage. I'd love to talk more about the subject, but only after you prove that you're not just trying to debunk the Old Testament or get people to think bad about Christianity. I'm serious.. look me up after you get some cultural info! =)

You know…I USED to feel sorry for people like you because I wanted to believe that you were searching for the truth and trying to develop and or increase your faith but God is revealing to me more and more that you and many like you are on a clear path to destruction.
My answer is probably more for those that are already believers than it is or will be a benefit to you or any disbeliever.
It’ll probably pass right through you as your vessel is defective and won’t be able to contain it.
God hasn’t informed me that I can answer for Him about why He does what He does and there is no one else that I know of that can answer for God when you ask a question of why does God do what He does.
Only God Himself can answer why He does what He does and when you meet Him face to face and you still have these silly little questions, pray that He doesn’t want to send you to eternal torment for attributing falsehood to Him and trying to mislead the Keepers of His Commandments; i.e. the Believers.
Others and I CAN with God’s permission and help explain certain things to people like you and you still won’t get it because He knows that there is perversity in your heart and will leave you wandering blindly because of your disbelief even after you receive the answer(s) you seek.
Because you are so weak and getting weaker you make these pitiful attempts to weaken a God that is so Mighty and Merciful and Forgiving that H e continues to allow you and others like you to exist and ask these questions to Believers that are silly, pitiful and meaningless to Believers in a feeble attempt to weaken God and the faith and trust that Believers have in Him.
You are SOOO wanting to weaken God that you have NO clue as to the magnitude of your error.
No where in any scripture that I or you have read that it reads that God hates anyone that is handicapped or has a defect.
Your pitiful mind couldn’t even grasp the concept that in that scripture that those that you call handicapped because of the use of the word ‘defect’ that because God didn’t make man with defects, that MAN did something or some things that cause the defects and the Holy food that was to be eaten by all could get contaminated by those with the defects if they handled it.
The same as it is today.
The only difference today is that with certain defects we believe cannot be passed on by the person with the defect handling the food of others BUT SOME CAN.
Why do you think that certain people that are known to have certain disease(s) are instruct not to and are not allowed to handle food to be eaten by others?
Why do you think that one of the main things that doctors instruct us to continually do is to WASH OUR HANDS.
Our hands is one of the main ways that we transmit and receive germs and bacteria.
God did not Create of Make Disease or Defect(s).
The things that WE DO are the cause of disease and other defects.
If you would ask God to cleanse you heart and mind and soul of whatever it is that has caused the DEFECT that is in your mind that causes you to doubt God so much so that you want to try to vilify Him, MAYBE He will show YOU some Mercy and allow you to believe or to better believe in Him.
You probably think that because you may not have any physical defect that you are not handicapped.
WRONG!
You have the worst handicap of all…
THE HANDICAP OF DISBELIEF.
It seems to me that you are one of the ones that I am praying for when I ask God to please bless the Believers to continue to be Believers and to Bless the unbelievers to see the error of their way and to becomc of the Believers.
God doesn’t hate ANY of His Creation…He hates some of things that WE DO.
You are in my prayers.

This is a false notion;God loves all creatures equally.Loss of money, health, limbs, difficulties all are tests of life by God to know who is thank full to HIM.Who faces difficulties in this world will get blessings of God more than others. So do not be disappointed.Trust in GOD as HE is the best judge what is to be given in this world and what in hereafter

What the bible says should not be understood word by word. God is love and love is from God. He does not neglect any one of us. I believe what this message is saying is that those who is perverse should not approach God with a sacrifice because he is not giving the best to God.

i don't think God hates the handicapped.

the verses you quoted are from the old book of the bible. way back then, they were under a different kind of law.

now, we are all under God's grace. and if one was born handicapped, it is because that is where your faith will grow. you learn to believe in God because you're handicapped. also, you learn to understand other handicapped based on your situation.

missed a few verses didnt you

it means they couldnt offer sacrifices (which was very physical work, you kill and carry oxen)

vs 21-22 says 21No man that hath a blemish of the seed of Aaron the priest shall come nigh to offer the offerings of the LORD made by fire: he hath a blemish; he shall not come nigh to offer the bread of his God.

22He shall eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy, and of the holy
