Buzz drinking is sinful drinking. Sorry I could not resist. Actually drinking today has in and of itself has the appearance of being sinful due to the abuse of it. Way too many drunks when asked by cops how many beers they had will say 2, when actually they had 22.

Like it or not Christians are judged as hypocrites when they drink and rightfully so because drinking is a worldly pleasure and they are to abstain from the world.

I was working with an alcoholic in the seventies when I was just starting to preach. This man had spent years in jail due to his drinking. He admitted he could not drink and knew every scripture that supposedly supports casual drinking and would start arguments about it.

I knew how he looked up to me and others and asked him one day what would go through his mind if he came to my house and saw me drinking one beer. He admitted he could not handle it and would call me a hypocrite and go get drunk. I just said I rest my case on why Christians should never drink even one.

This is just how I view things but many non Christians whether they admit it or not think this way also. If a Christian is seen drinking even just one every now and then or admits to it, it hurts their testimony big time and they are seen as selfish hypocrites who do not care about how they represent God and his church.

Before I left Christianity i would get to liking a deacon and think highly of him but when they would say they like a beer with their food in restraurants every now and then, I could not help but feel they should give up being a deacon. Like it or not Christians driking hurts the church. PERIOD. Even now as down on Christianity as I am at times I meet someone who from first appearance is a very strong and faithful Christian but when they drink or admit they drink, I cannot feel as good about them as I used to.
christians are told to go out to the world and preach the gospel and many in this world are alcoholics who cannot handle drinking and by their actions they could cause just one person to go to hell by drinking.

CHRISTIANS, IS IT WORTH IT?

One reason AA is taking the churches place in working with drunks is they know the danger and thier spirituality is based on being sober. If Christian churches did their job it would put AA out of business which the Big Book admits AA is just a copy of Christianity without the rules on other sins. Just stay away from drink and you please God. I believe Christians who want to drink are the reason churches have to send their own people to AA because other Christians drink and CANNOT help the alcoholic which is one of the sinful groups Jesus wants hiis followeres to help.

Yeah - you're a lukewarm drinker. You are not putting your 'all' into it. Sheesh... ;-)

Drunkenness is not a sin but the things you do while drunk can be sinful at times.
