When I take the lens out, the irriation goes away. It is only one eye, and has persisted several days. I don't see any redness or foreign body in the eye and have tried flushing with saline with no improvement. Have eye doctor appointment on Monday. Any suggestions on what to do, or what this may be? thanks

Could be protein deposits that has accumulated in your lens. There are tablets that you can dissolve into your solution and you can soak the lens in it, they're available in most optical clinics, sometimes the 3 in 1 solution just isn't enough so you need to schedule these soaking periods constantly to keep the lens clean of deposits. This deposits usually form especially if you sleep with the lens on. Or it could be your len's surface has been scratched so the cut in the len's surface irritates your eye. In most cases, buying a new lens usually solves the problem. Most lens have a lifespan of a couple of years then you have to replace it, even shorter if you wear it to bed constantly.

Sounds like it might either be protien buil-up on the lenses, or simply that the lens is torn or nicked. Do you have any more lenses to try? I'm not sure if you wear disposable contacts (like Acuvue) or you have just one pair that you wear every day and take out at night. I would check the lens really good and make sure that its not nicked, torn, split, or ripped anywhere. Sometimes those little tiny tears can be hard to spot. Either way, I wouldn't keep trying to wear it if it irritates you that much. Put it in the case and take with you to your appointment on Monday to show the doctor and in the meantime, wear your glasses. (I hope you have a pair of specs to wear)

I put on contacts, b/c I can not stand having whatever on my face either. It did not take me long to get used to hanging contacts in, only some days, perhaps a week. Don't practice by means of sticking your finger to your eye! That is relatively disagreeable b/c your finger is dry and it sucks moisture from your eye. Genuinely hanging an actual contacts in isnt' as unhealthy as folks suppose, the contact is moist, so there's little ache. For those who go to your eyedoctor, perhaps they are going to offer you a trial pair of contacts for your prescription so which you could try them out and see the way you find it irresistible.

could be a problem with the lens itself, such as a protein deposit, or a tear. I'd try a new lens and see if the irritation persists. In the meantime, wear your glasses.

Sounds like there is a rip/tear/hole in the lens.

i think your contact might be a bit dirty. i mean maybe there is really a sand grain on it. just rub your contact with the water solution. rinse it well before you wear it.
