This is for Ali...I had posted an answer and then updated it, I don't know if you got my update...but here is the anser to your question:
What you are failing to understand is that this was revealed during a time of war. You are completely missing the point....

If your fighting in the Name of God, then don't overpass our limits (basically don't fight them unless they fight you). And if they fight you then kill them, because their death is better than the torment they are going to cause later. Their death is their reward for waging a war against you. Key Point...BUT IF THEY CEASE, ALLAH IS OFT-FORGIVING MOST MERCIFUL. It's funny how one reads that.

Is this not still practiced today. If you have a guy strapped with a bomb on his way to kill a bunch of people wouldn't you rather him be killed first. Don't the U.S. soldiers kill thousands of innocent civilians just in case they are insurgents.

I don't think it is right for any human being to take the life of another, what I was trying to say when I listed the atrocities done to Muslims was ro explain where the anger stems from.

Alot more atrocities have occured by people of faiths other than Islam, however it is Islam the media has raged a war on.

THE ACTIONS OF FEW INDIVIDUALS DO NOT REPRESENT THAT OF AN ENTIRE RELIGION......

THE PEOPLE OF 9/11 WERE INNOCENT LIVES AND DID NOT DESERVE TO DIE, GOD WILL PUNISH THOSE RESPONSIBLE

BUT THE INNOCENT IRAQI LIVES THAT ARE BEING LOST EVERYDAY ARE NOT LESS VALUABLE THAN THOSE LOST ON 9/11....

WHETHER MOTIVATED BY GOD OR MONEY, IT IS ENOUGH THE INNOCENTS THAT PAY WITH THEIR LIVES.....THIS AGAIN DOES NOT REFLECT OUR RELIGION IN ANY WAY

***ALSO*** GOD TELLS US TO NOT USE FORCE TO CONVERT, AND IF A PERSON REFUSES TO BELIEVE TO LEAVE THE JUDGEMENT TO HIM, IF A PERSON FORCEFULLY CONVERTS THEN IT IS NOT ACCEPTED....I KNOW THAT THIS LAW IS NOT ALWAYS HONORED, HOWEVER THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT THESE PEOPLE ARE ACTING ACCORDING TO ISLAMIC LAW---THEY ARE ACTUALLY IN VIOLATION OF IT!

MAY I ASK WHAT YOUR FRIEND WAS DOING IN THE MIDDLE EAST? I'M NOT MAKING EXCUSES FOR THEM BUT I HAVE HAD FAMILY MEMBERS MASSCRED BY BOTH JEWS AND CHRISTIANS, SO I DON'T NEED TO MAKE EXCUSES!

Why must you people be so hypocritical? Is it safe to assume that Christianity is a perverted religion because of the priest pedophile cases? You know the Arch Diosis just settle $660 million out of court, that's alot of priests with alot of boys. According to your method of judgement the entire faith of Christianity would be in question considering your supposed "men of faith" were having GAY SEX WITH LITTLE BOYS!

How ignorant are you?!!

As my Lord has stated...

Say: Oh Disbelievers
I worship not, that which you worship
Nor will you worship that which I worship
And I shall not worship that which you are worshipping
Nor will you worship that which I worship
To you be your religion, and to me my religion.
(1-7:1 Al Qur'an).

For men of understanding.

"Don't the U.S. soldiers kill thousands of innocent civilians just in case they are insurgents."

No, they don't. Yes, civilians have died as the result of US military action, but far, FAR more civilians have died as the result of Muslim actions. Sometimes, that's the whole point - why else would a Muslim strap on a bomb and walk into a public place if he weren't intending to kill civilians? At least when the US military does it, it's an accident.

I was going to stop there, but what the heck. Muslims are continually claiming that Islam is the "religion of peace". Well, I'd be happy to believe that if we didn't keep seeing Muslims defending other Muslims killing - well, heck, pretty much anybody, including other Muslims. Want to convince me and the rest of the world that you're the victims here? That Islam is not made up of murderous lunatics? Then STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR THEM! I've already lost one friend to the nut jobs in the Middle East. I don't want to lose any more.

The Qur'an is a hateful doctrine, full of intolerance and submission.

In this day and age, EVERYBODY should read it and be informed. Mainstream Muslims support the extremist Jihadis and terrorists because they know these extremists are practicing what they preach -- that they are following the Qur'an faithfully.

Having said that, it's only fair to point out where Muhammad got his ideas of God.

Many books of the Old Testament are rife with a take-no-prisoner, blood-thirsty, warrior mentality. Unfortunately, Muhammad synthesized Islam from both Jewish and Christian scripture. It’s not in the least surprising that Muhammad’s life and his Qur’an reflect the ruthlessness of the Old Testament God.

Here’s a very small sampling of Old Testament verses that Muhammad took to heart:

Deuteronomy 20:13-14

"When the Lord delivers it into your hand, put to the sword all the males .... As for the women, the children, the livestock and everything else in the city, you may take these as plunder for yourselves."

Deuteronomy 28:53

"You will eat the fruit of the womb, the flesh of the sons and daughters the Lord your God has given you."

1 Samuel 15:3,7-8

"This is what the Lord says: Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have; do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ***.”

Hosea 13:16

"The people of Samaria must bear their guilt, because they have rebelled against their God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed to the ground, their women with child ripped open."

Jer. 13:14; 48:10

"I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the Lord: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them. A curse on him who is lax in doing the Lord's work! A curse on him who keeps his sword from bloodshed."

Deut. 7:2

"Leave alive nothing that breathes. Show them no mercy."

Numbers 31:17-18

"Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourself every girl who has never slept with a man."

Ezekiel 9:4-6

“Slay old men outright, young men and maidens, little children and women"

Judges 21:10-12

"Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead with the edge of the sword and; also the women and little ones. "

In all fairness to Muslims, Jews taught Muhammad, via their scripture, what a great God is all about. Muhammad took those lessons and extended them for the nomadic Arabs of his region.

P.S.

Whether I've read the Arabic version is irrelevant. The difference is insufficient to change the tone of hatred, intolerance or submission in the Qur'an. Your opinion is the invalid one, as demonstrated by your rehashed propaganda.

its not the verses from the quran that put islam in a bad light, it's its followers! who did the 9/11 attacks? the bombings in madrid, london, bali, israel, iraq, afghanistan? moslems did all of it!

These verses are always shown out of context by Christians.

One should read Quran in its context. Islam denounces terrorism.

You need to get more educated.

And how do you know when they cease and when they do not?
How do you know when they've genuinely stopped oppressing and when they've merely put it to one side to position themselves better to do more damage with it?
