It wasn't that long ago (4 or 5 yrs) that our govt had to intervene because Egypt was going to kill some christian missionaries because of showing religious books to Islamics.

I'm sure if you asked those living there that aren't Islamic you'll get a totally different picture. Even our soldiers have religious restrictions placed on them outside of the camp.

Lebannon is the closest I've seen to religious tolerance in any Islamic nations. But even they have problems.

Anytime a nation's laws are determined solely based on a religion's point of view there will be intolerance. Think of Europe during the Crusades.

America was founded on christian principles, not doctrine. Though there is intolerance it's always from personal beliefs, not Bible laws mandated by the govt. Though many of the laws are identical to the principals (though shalt not kill, etc.) they aren't the same thing. If it was we'd stone non-christians. lol!

Well Mike... I guess you got this one all wrong... Let me just ask your question the other way around, out of the 57 Countries members of the OIC (Organisation of the Islamic Conference) which is recognized to be a fair representative of the 1.3 Billion Moslems around the world.

So just give me your definition of intolerance an go through the list of members and give me your feedback, I'm sure you know your geography by now and must know a bare minimum about each of them. So which majority of Islamic countries do you see as intolerant?

http://www.oic-oci.org/

If you answer my question honestly (away from the propaganda you have been subject to, or trying to subject others to through your politically invorrect question, I'm sure you'll come up with a good explanation to where your question came from in the first place.

Its good to see most Answerers also are not falling for this propaganda... a quick survey will demonstrate that all who know their geography and could name a few Islamic states found that none of them fall within the description you are trying to stick indirectly to Islam...

On the other hand those who are confused, and get their facts right out of fairy tale books; just use broad and funny comments to explain why those Islamic states they couldn't name are so "intolerably intolerant".

What is your definition of tolerance?
The government doesn't always reflect what people want and think. The Egyptian and Turkish governements are not religous so maybe this is the reason. Civilians may have different views though. There good people and bad people in every group.

I would not include Egypt with Turkey.
The head terrorist on 9/11 was Muhammad Atta; an affluent Egyptian and a Muslim fanatic.
Turkey, however, is different in this regard, perhaps because of the legacy of Kamel Ataturk.
Sadly, this is changing, as more and more Turks who are living outside of the big cities are becoming more fanatical...

I don't know about Egypt, but Turkey consciously tries to keep the mullas from interfering in the governance. So much so that Military has to intervene. Mustafa Kemal tried his best to keep the mosque and state seperate, and they sorta like that.

It's where the political power lies. The Muslims have taken a part of both places in politics. I figure it's a matter of time before Turkey is once again full of the Muslim power, but not Egypt. I think that Egypt will go the other way. There are prophesies concerning this. You might not have expected this, but this is what the future of Egypt - who will be a pain to the Antichrist, they will experience this:

19 In that day there will be an altar to the LORD in the heart of Egypt, and a monument to the LORD at its border. 20 It will be a sign and witness to the LORD Almighty in the land of Egypt. When they cry out to the LORD because of their oppressors, he will send them a savior and defender, and he will rescue them. 21 So the LORD will make himself known to the Egyptians, and in that day they will acknowledge the LORD. They will worship with sacrifices and grain offerings; they will make vows to the LORD and keep them. 22 The LORD will strike Egypt with a plague; he will strike them and heal them. They will turn to the LORD, and he will respond to their pleas and heal them.

23 In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria. The Assyrians will go to Egypt and the Egyptians to Assyria. The Egyptians and Assyrians will worship together. 24 In that day Israel will be the third, along with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing on the earth. 25 The LORD Almighty will bless them, saying, "Blessed be Egypt my people, Assyria my handiwork, and Israel my inheritance." ( Isaiah 19 )

Yes, that's right! ASSYRIA will rise again! There are currently an Assyrian people who are Christian in northern Iraq. They identify themselves in that way. We will see what happens there, but during the coming times.
