This has a very long story attached to it, so I'm going to go straight to the point at hand: how much ativan can a 275 pound person take to knock them out without taking them out permanently? I have 4.5 mg in me now, and it hasn't even taken the edge off of the anxiety that needs to be addressed. I also have hydryxyzine, which it turns out is more effective, but if I combine them, I'm afraid again that I'll be flirting with danger.

I am in a parasuicidal state and agreed with my therapist to stay stoned on sedatives until Monday. Sounds crazy and irresponsible but that's only because I haven't gone into any detail.

So the question is: how much more ativan can/should I take, and/or should I add hydroxyzine?

This is not a prank or a how-do-I-kill-myself question. I'm trying to stay alive but for now can only do it in a stupor. Again, long story.

Helpful knowledge: I'm married and in treatment for mental illness.

My psychiatrist knows I have hydroxyzine, ativan and valium; he said I could "just stay stoned" until Sunday (very big day) - if I'm inpatient on Sunday it will have a serious, long-term, negative effect on my daughter's life.

My need to remain sedated is due to a med transition - it is not stress related. I am familiar with meditation and guided imagery but the medications are making them both very difficult right now.

As someone who used to work as a RN on psych units, let me tell you that no one can tell you that without seeing you. If I was you I would go to the Emergency Department of the nearest hospital. If it is a hospital with a psych unit, so much the better. Then they can have a psych professional to assess you.

The other thing is that you had to have a doctor prescribe the Ativan and the hydroxyzine for you. That doctor should have some doctor on call who can advise patients in case of an emergency. You condition is a legitimate reason to phone who's on call and have them advise you.

Since your married and have so much anxiety, it would be best to have your wife drive you to the ER if that is what the on call doctor advises you to do or if you can't get hold of the on call Dr.

If you are in a parasuicidal state you need to go to the ER NOW!! Having that much Ativan in you is not safe! Call 911 or have someone take you to the ER. Why wait til Monday, that's still a long way off and it sounds like you need help now. It may be a long story behind all this but you still need help now!

honestly, i dont know.
but i will tell you this. learn to meditate.
i dont mean sit cross-legged and say "OM"
i mean relax by focusing on somewhere or something that made you feel at peace at some point in time. i like to remember laying in the soft grass as a child, looking up through green maple leaves as they flittered in the breeze. watching the soft white fluffy clouds roll slowly across the perfect blue sky. i can hear the sounds of the wind in the trees, maybe a bird. even feel the blades of grass prick my ears....
its a chance to leave the world behind, to be safe. knowing you get to "take a break".
I used to take alot of drugs... but the stress and anxiety just found a way to follow me into my stupor. so all i had was a stressed out drug trip.
now i dont take any drugs... i'm not perfect, but i'm better.
no matter where i am, when i am, i can be a little boy with no care in the world enjoying the most perfect july afternoon.
and be refreshed enough and relaxed enough to deal with whatever i have to deal with.
i know i didnt answer your question....
but i hope this helps anyway....
good luck

yes it can be dangerous. Ativan is very similar to valium..and I have seen many pts who complain that they both work for about 30 min..and then nothing..that is a complaint I have heard from pts.

I am not going to attempt to figure that out, one would have to know more about your medical history and I am not a doctor.

you need to contact your dr for that. if he agreed to let you stay sedated he should have written the prescription for up to so many pills every 4-6 hours prn (as needed)..otherwise you need to call him for that advice. don't follow any advice except from your dr.

Do not take any more Ativan, nor your Hyd..

3 mg should have you asleep by now. Instead do something to calm yourself. Your therapist should have discussed coping skills with you.

It isnt safe for you to take anything more.

Call your therapist if you are feeling suicidal, or call 911.
