my friend's dad who is my dentist said he won't be using the shot on me so i don't know if that's possible.. like... is my cavity really small or something is that why i don't need the shot?

I had a small one filled without novacaine. The dentist would only do it if he believes it to be small based on xrays. So don't worry it won't hurt! You'll be able to talk correctly afterwards, so it might even be better.

If your cavity is small, then it isn't necessary to use novacaine. I once had a very small cavity and my dentist filled it without giving me the novacaine shot. The dentist didn't have to drill deep enough for me to feel it.

If the decay is only in the enamel, you really don't need to be numb... and the procedure will be quicker since you/the dentist won't have to wait for you to be numb...

The cavity is probably really small, like he said, and you'll be finished in no time!

nowadays topical local anesthetic is being used instead of shot,maybe ur dentist want's to use the same!!!
