Yes. I think some people need to feel secure so they believe in god and jesus. It makes them feel safe. I don't need a false god to feel safe. I have courage and am not afraid of anything!

Always a possibility. Before this there were others. For some reason the gods in antiquity were very often bulls. That sort of merged into Judism. The Moses incident and the first 10 Commandments destroying the golden cow. Later a sacred red cow was used in purification rituals. The cow sacraficed, burned and ashes mixed with water for purification. And the cow had to be unblemished. Basically Israel and Juda pretty much ended coincidental to running out of the purification water and no cow.
My opinion is that in earlier times people needed religion and gods to make up for not being able to explain or understand natural events. They also had a need of religious rituals. Think of it, no TV, radio or other entertainment. Religion became the entertainment.
I suppose the real question is can religion survive scientific knowledge. Well, science came in about 15th Century Europe. Seems to be holding up. But the result of science might have a lot to do with all the additional branches of such as Christianity. The real breakups began about then.

people have a need to "put a face on" the concept of the Creator so they can identify with it better. "God" is technically unknowable, so instead we create images of "God" that we can understand. As to why someone would want to create some of the gods we have come up with over the centuries, who knows. Some are pretty weird, especially the one that purports to love you and then keeps threatening to punish you with hell if you don't do what is expected of you, while at the same time telling you that once you accept forgiveness you can't be sent there. What kind of sense does it make to tell you both that you're going to be punished and that you can't be punished??? Weird, right?

No....fear of what? What are we fearing? Im not fearing anything. I do not fear death, since the self is illusion to begin with....if people could see that all is really one then they would find peace of mind. All in existence is really one and the self is mearly illusion. Life is like water...there are many of drops that make up an ocean....these drops are recycled over and over like life by.... turning into rain, ice, mist, soda, or what not....but in end they all end up back as part of the one and same water mass. All life is recycled as well....look at nature an animal dies and decomposes with help of microlife...then grows into a nice pretty flower...which is eaten by a zebra...who then is eaten by a lion...and around and around. I dont get how one could be complety spiritually bllind and say that existence itself can from nothing and all this nonsense. Science can not prove all... there is more to existence then ours brains can come close to sensing. Entheogenic substances can help expand the mind and see beyond the sleeping waking dreaming cycle.

In the metaphorical sense, quite so, many of the pre-conceived notions people hold to be true about God are based on human social constructions.
However, one cannot be logically inclined by using this argument to assert that this means God doesn't exist.

We didn't create God out of ingnorance and fear, but out of philosophy and thinking. However in post-enlightenment times we still believe in God out of ingnorance and fear.
