I had my wisdom teeth removed a week ago. Because it was surgery, the surgeon put me on steroids for 6 days to keep the swelling down, and antibiotics for 10 days to prevent infection. As of the past couple of nights, my throat has been sore. I've now noticed whiteish fuzzy patches on my tongue with raw red spots around. It bled when I brushed my teeth. Is it possible that this is thrush? Once I'm off antibiotics, should it go away, or should I go ahead and call the doc?

Also, I'm not sure if this matters, but I'm also taking birth control, lortab 7.5 and mepergan fortis.

It could be thrush or another type of infection. I almost died from thrush when over not much more than 24 hours, the white and swelling closed my throat. First task is to leave a message with the dental office that did the surgery. Take your temperature and include this information with dates and medicines. Do not assume that this is someone's fault, but stress that you think you need someone to look at it as soon as possible, because you think you might need a diagnosis right away.
Whoever can see you first is whom you should go to, so also call anyone else available to you. For example, if you have health insurance, that usually includes a 'nurse on call' feature - check your card for the telephone number patients can use.
If you cannot get someone Friday morning to say they can look at it same day, see if there is a dental college or health clinic in your area. Last choice is an emergency room. Bring your medications with you.
If you live alone and are not planning to see someone Friday, ask friends or family to help you look for places and to call in regularly to check on you. Gargle with a glass of warm water with a teaspoon of salt (don't drink it) several times a day and rest until your appointment. Don't eat empty calories and try to eat some non-acidic (not irritating) sources of vitamin C like broth you boiled some greens in, or any other fresh fruit/produce you can tolerate.
Good luck

It has all the signs of being a yeast infection (called thrush when its in the mouth) which can be caused by the use of antibiotics. Try eating alot of yogurt with active acidophillus in it As long as you are on antibiotics it will make it worse Definitely see the Dr. because yeast is systemic meaning it can travel and settle in different parts of your body an is extremely hard to get rid of. I had to drink
pure Nystatin which will kill the virus but it took about three months of drinking this NASTY tasting medicine 3 times adayGood luck! see the doctor!

It sounds like thrush to me. Thrush is a yeast, and antibiotics can often trigger an infection. I highly recommend calling the doc, because it won't go away with the antibiotics.

Sounds like it could be thrush or even strep throat. Try eating yogurt, that will help with the thrush. If it doesn't clear up in soon or is more painful, call your doctor.

It sounds like it's thrush. I also had a sore throat for a few days before I went to the doctor and I ended up being really sick for a couple of weeks. It was very painful so I suggest that you have your doctor look at it and they can give you meds that will clear it up quickly. (I've had it a few times since the first time because it's a side effect of medicine that I take. The meds that my doctor has given me have always cleared it up quickly.)

White spots certainly does sound like thrush. It probably won't go away by itself because it's a fungal infection. Go to a doctor to find out what you can do about it.

Ive noticed that most answers think that it is Thrush, but don't say anything about avoiding it in future. Thrush is caused by the act of Helmet washing. This practice should be halted forthwith.

Go to the doctor, yeah it sounds like thrush but it also sounds like a yeast infection, yes you can get it in your mouth from the steroids and the anibiotics.

the antibiotics are the culprit especially when you combine them with steroids. Antibiotics not only kill bad bacteria they also kill good which protect you from yeast infections..like thrush. you need to call your dentist and get them to call you in something for thrush.

not likely to be strep throat because you have been on antibiotics..the steroid gives the antibiotics a boost and your immune system too. I have been on strong antibiotics that didnt kill my strep tonsillitis, got a shot of cortison by the end of the day my tonsils shrank half the size they were that morning...

It depends. It could just be side-affects of the steroids. The white fuzzy spots sound a lot like thrush to me. Your best bet is just to ask your doctor just to make sure.
