It's really weird becuase all my kids had it and now they're fine but I have it and can't get rid of it for the life of me. I have long hair and am considering cutting it really short. This stuff is enough to drive one mad!

Mayonnaise Kills Lice

Yes it works. I got rid of the lice on my daughters (and my) hair in the same time that other parents get rid of it w/ Rid.

A Harvard university studay says it takes 4 hours for olive oil to suffocate a louse. So put that mayo (or oil) in your hair - really soak it, put on a shower cap and wait 4 hours. Then comb out with a metal lice comb.

It won't kill the nits, but you can use the life cycle of the louse in your favor - it takes lice a week from hatching to be ready to reproduce, so repeat the procedure at 5 or 6 day intervals until they're gone.

Incidentally, one California doctor recommended covering the hair w/ Cetaphil and blowdrying it to "shrink wrap" the lice. You could try that too.

Make sure that everything in your house is cleaned, or bagged for 2 weeks so you don't get reinfected.

Yes it does work. My daughter got lice and I used Rid and it did not work... I called her Dr to see what I could do and he said to use Mayonnaise. I put it on her hair and put a plastic bag over your head (not covering your face) and leave it for about 1 hour. Wash out and then use the little comb that the Nix and Rid come with. I will never put all the chemicals from the store bought stuff in my children's hair ever again. My daughter also has very thick hair and at the time it was down to her butt... So it should work for you...Good luck

I've heard of lice getting used to the different ointments like nix and rid and therefore make it harder to kill them. I would ask your doctor to prescribe you something stronger to help you. Mayonnaise will usually just condition your hair and make it really shiny and soft, but it might suffocate and smother the lice. I hope you don't have to cut your hair. Good luck!

You should try Gambex, every day for at least two weeks.
If that is out of the question, put vinegar on your hair, wrap your head in a soft warm towel and go to bed like that.Do this every other night for 2-3 weeks and comb hair with a fine-tooth comb every morning.

sounds like it would work. the mayo probably makes an environment where the eggs cannot live in. i am black and i use products on my hair. i remember when i was in school and they check all the kids in school for lice the nurse told me i have nothing to worry about because of the products i put in my hair. so i am thinking the mayo acts like the products and produces an unfavorable environement. also go to the pharmacy and get some shampoo i hear it works. stop being cheap.

Mayo won't kill them as far as I know - but will prevent them from grasping the hair due to the oil content. Use a nit comb and the spray from chemists. Make sure you're not being reinfected by a family member etc - wash all sheets and towels. I had an ongoing battle with my eldest - who kept passing them on to me!!!

I know how horrible these things are! Please go to naturalginesis.com they have a product that really works at getitng rid of these darn buggers! its all natural and the bugs do not become resistant to it like with nix, rid etc. get the mousse, get their terminator nit comb (the tightest comb ive seen yet and it pulls out all kinds of nits). they also have a couple other products if you want you can get to help you too like a preventative spray. the mouse really works. it breaks down their exoskeleton, thus killing them, and it breaks down the glue on the nits, making them easier to get out. you will still have to pull some, but with the comb the majority will come out. the other thing, u must get absolutely every single nit, as impossible as it seems, else they will come back! this is the problem we continually ran into with our daughter.
cutting your hair will help also, but these products really do work if you dont want to cut your hair...plus youll still need something to get the rest out. Good luck to you!

Mayo will kill the live ones but not the nits. I have three children also not only is it a pain in the a** but the cost of the treatments are unreal. Believe it or not DOG SHAMPOO.
After you do the nix treatment and pick for hours. Wash your hair with the dog shampoo once a week and it will be no more. And it really makes your hair soft and shiny. I have hair to my waist and two of my children have long thick hair.
