In 1985 I bought a '66 Nova in a sealed-bid auction. Nobody was permitted to drive the car. It was a look-at-it only, and don't even think about starting it up situation.
My bid was $500 over the next highest bidder, but I really wanted the car. It had issues for sure. The gearshift indicator didn't point to the correct gear. When it indicated 1st gear, it was really in drive, etc. The engine was old and tired. It overheated alot and burned alot of oil.
We've had the car 22 years now and don't regret buying it. We've had it painted twice, upholsterd 3 times that I can remember, rebuilt the engine and trans each once, but we live in the southwest, so the car isn't ever going to rust away.
Right now it has a problem with the engine, but it has 270,000 miles on it, so we're just going to replace it along with the tranny. We suspect a broken crankshaft.
Overheating is a problem everybody with the old inline Chevy six had. The water pump just doesn't push enough water through at a standing idle. We've just learned to live with it by keeping the rpm's up when sitting in traffic. Besides, we have a desert cooler radiator now.

I once bought a used Hyundai at an auction for $300..
I was allowed to start it, but not move it. It sounded fair to good, and I drove it for 2 years before the engine failed.
Not bad, I reckon. It was good for local driving, but I didnt trust it for long trips.

Yes...my friend is an Exporter and by a miracle of luck got a Jaguars XJ silver color for 4,000 bucks and sold it for 12,000 bucks to a Finnish buyer. This was 1994 so I don't know about now.
It is as is. Look it over particularly under the hood for anything unusual in a decent car.

NO BUT I HAVE BEEN TO A LOT OF THESE AND FOR THE MOST PART YOU ARE GETTING JUNK.
EVERYTHING IS A LOOK ONLY SITUATION AND WHAT YOU BUY IS WHAT YOU GET.
MOST OF THE TIME YOU WILL NEED A TOW TRUCK JUST TO GET THE VEHICLE BACK HOME.
