As a foreign person (meant in the most non-discriminative way in case anyone tries flippin it back on me...) what would be the disadvantages of moving to england or what do you not like about England?

"England is a great country, and every country has its benefits along with disadvantages. With respect to U.K, the disadvantage is that your income is taxed at a very high rate. This means that after certain level of income you might say "does it make sense for me to work an extra hour." There is also a very high vat rate (sales tax rate), and in general the cost of living in UK is very high.

Tell me bout it... Not to be racist but when u watch American films such as Bad Boys etc n they all say " i pay my taxes!"... the English government r such greedy f**ks.. did u know u can run a car on chip fat n the only country which taxes u for doin that is England! i swear it's like the most expensive country ever! i'm only 19, part time, full time college, n i get bout 500GBP after tax from 700 a month!

"The main disadvantage would be the differences in culture, language and possibly, discrimination. We are flooded with foreigners at the moment and more are desperate to get here. In fact there has been a forecast that there will 25 million foreign nationals living in England by 2025. Remember, England is a very small country, where are the government going to put them all? There is quite a bit of xenophobia around at the moment and I can't see it getting any better in the foreseeable future. Why do you want to come to England? What do you have to offer? These are the questions you should be asking yourself."

My lover, my babber, my cocker... i am English lol

I personally am opposed to govt. intervention in health care, so I also see that as a disadvantage. I was watching C-Span and the UK parliment debate was on and the Member of Parliment from one of the region pointed out that prisioners get quicker access to dental then what his constitutients got.

You asked for disadvantage so I wont discuss any advantages. I must point out that I am a proud american, so I will have my own biases

Does it have to be England or would anywhere in the UK do. If so you might consider Northern Ireland. Wages are much lower than in England but the general standard of living is much higher, as a knock on effect of being on the same island as the Republic of Ireland, which has the highest standard of living in Europe right now {Need to check the EU statistics people to see how this is worked out, would take to long to explain here} Other than the wages situation, which is improving, Northern Ireland has by far the lowest crime rate in the UK, the economy is booming, it will be easy to find a job if your not too picky, we have no housing crisis like the rest of the UK and we have better access to healthcare and dentistry. We don't pay council tax like the rest of the UK. An our education system has the highest standards of any UK region.
The downsides...Our public transport system is almost non existant, you will certainly have to drive everywhere. Our drivers are by far the worst in the UK, and at one time in the 90s we were the worst drivers in the EU. Only Iceland and Scotland are colder and wetter than Northern Ireland. It rains on average over 150 days a year and in 2007 we had only 2 days all year where the temperature reached 25c in Belfast. You can start to feel a little isolated at times living in Northern Ireland as you need to book a flight just to go to anywhere else in the UK never mind greater Europe. You will become acutely aware of your religious affiliation and won't understand why, there have genuinely been cases here where Muslims and jews have been asked if they are protestant mulims or catholic muslims {sadly we have some people that dumb}. In 2000 Northern Ireland was described as Europe's best kept secret. needless to say that led to a massive increase in immigrants, especially from Eastern Europe. That in turn has increased incidents of racism in Belfast.

They've been disarmed! The people gave up their inherent right to self defense.

Criminals have more power because the law abiding populous is disarmed.

The government is overly restrictive. Cameras in public places.

The taxes are high. Cost of living is high.

They boil or put either toffee or chutney on everything, just kidding. :)

Pudding is a completely different food there, for better or worse.

It's crowded.

The military (SAS) can participate in police activity I believe.
I know the SAS participates in domestic anti-terrorism missions.

Socialized health care could be an advantage or a disadvantage, depends on how you look at it.

The beer is good, though it's probably over consumed.
Can't blame 'em, I'd drink a lot too if it always rained, everything was expensive, the food sucked and I couldn't own a firearm for fun and self defense.

I don't know what your nationality is or whether English is your first language but you should find it easy to get a job if you are prepared to work hard and have a skill that is in demand.
If you are from the USA you will find that our schoolchildren don't shoot each other although there is a bit of gun crime on the streets, however nothing like the amount in the USA
Healthcare is usually free to everyone although you do have to pay for some things like dental work or drugs if you are in certain categories.
The weather is mild and rarely causes problems like hurricanes or out of control fires destroying thousands of homes
Proximity to Europe makes it easy to take Mediterranean holidays and the flights are very cheap.
The pound sterling is very strong against the dollar which makes imports cheaper.
Disadvantages - property is expensive, taxes can be high
young people drink too much, it's crowded.

Tax and Fuel duty is the biggest pain.
Speed camera, 2nd biggest pain....it's another form of tax, because the safety aspect of cameras went out a decade ago.
Political Correctness, a disease that's washed over from the USA is the 3rd biggest pain.
Despite our NHS, there are certain parts of the country where you cannot get the correct Healthcare, and even worse, the Dental care is nearly all private because the greedy pigs have cartelled together to make sure the NHS dentists are closed out.
Finally, our Government...all of it from whatever party....needs removing. Votings is no good, we need a real and triumphant Guido Fawkes.

But, all Gods look up to the English.

England is a nice country to live in - the weather is OK and
people are nice and friendly with some exceptions.

English taxes are not so high compared with our taxes here
in Scandinavia.

I used to live in Australia in the 60`s and 70`s and taxes were
pretty high there and you got absolutely nothing for them.

Cold, wet and miserable. Lots of street violence. Poor education system. Lots of really horrible pubs. Lousy at most sport - rugby, soccer and especially cricket.

Taxation in the UK is high so living in England you'll be taxed at a high rate. Council tax is pretty high alongside the government taxes on wages.

Someone below says NI doesn't pay Council Tax - I wonder what that bill for over £1,000 was for then...it's called Rates and is same as council tax.

It's cold, expensive, we have heavy taxes. Our trains don't run on time, the buses are always late, postal strikes cause chaos, the police arrest normal folk and let the criminals off, our streets are full of drugs and violent youths, our country is run by incompetents, our wages are crap, we're involved in a war we didn't want, we're made to beg at the feet of America and the EU, we can't win in any sports, our press are awful, our TV is terrible, we pay taxes so lazy people can sit on their arses, our hospitals are disgusting, the towns and cities are filthy, we have little fashion sense, our food is horrible, we suffer really bad traffic problems, ridculous regional accents, we have a useless monarchy and we still cling to the memory of a long since passed empire.

We do have some nice beer, though.

The disadvantage (Britain as a whole, not just England) is for the native British. Their hard earned taxes are being frittered away to give handouts to all and sundry who flock here in their thousands, to build more houses to accommodate them and to give them free health treatment. (We have had to pay NI for that). It's a gravy boat for immigrants (legal or not) but it saddens the British to see a once proud nation's demise(Murphywi is a case in point).
Mudd0g...you raise a valid point about dentists...if I have a pain in my leg, I get it treated free but if I have a pain in my teeth I have to pay an extortionate amount. I'm pretty confident, however that if one of the scrounging immigrants needed dental treatment that this government would pay for it somehow.
