e.g., like Carrie White in the movie, "Carrie?" I'm just trying to find out where all the anger is coming from because I thought that we as civilized human beings should be respectful of the beliefs of everyone--not just of those who share our own.

arily666: Thanks for your honesty. You're the only one besides one other to answer in a civilized and honest manner. It's the same with race issues. I'd assume that racial militancy also comes from an angry response to societal abuse. But what do i know? All most of you do is make fun of others and give a mass thumbs down to differing opinions.

And if you are on the "disrespectful and angry side," you probably deserve that so-called "rude assumption." No PC bs here, right?

Don't preach to me about the evils about religion. Because I bet you pay more attention to religion than I do (and are more well-versed in it) as I am very ignorant of the Bible and most of Christianity's teachings--much less other religions.

It's kind of a feedback loop here. Christians and atheists never agree, but as one gets angrier and ruder, the other one responds in turn, making the first even angrier...and so on.
I think lots of people here take everything a little too seriously, too. People are more willing to be rude anonymously, and sarcasm and teasing can be misinterpreted without body language cues.
I assume you realize that there is a subgroup of Christians that are as, if not more, disrespectful to atheists as we are to them.
-Atheist.

See? We're angry because people like you lie about us so much.
Are you really so socially out-of-touch that you're unaware that people get angry when others tell this kind of lie about them?
More to-the-point, doesn't the fact that you have to lie so much to defend your beliefs tell you something about the quality of your beliefs? It should.

Don't you think it is a bit disrespectful/insulting to imply I must have come from an abusive background to be a passionate atheist and a civil rights advocate.
I do get angry when some Christians want to trample civil rights, or say "this is a christian country". They are insulting statements and I have every right to speak my mind.
In general I don't answer respectful questions with sarcasm. Your question was neither intelligent or respectful, and yes you piss me off.

I wasn't, but my dad died when he was 38 years old...
But that has nothing do with my angry.
I'm more or less angry that people can believe and are allowed to be respected for their unfounded and unproven beliefs.
The world would be so much better off without religion.
Right now the world will be destroyed because two religions are on a collision course - there is no way they can be both be right...

No I was not raised in an abusive home environment. As a matter of fact I was raised in a Christians home environment. All the anger seems to be coming from you as you mount your tirade. Why don't you just calm down and listen to what others have to say. You will find that people are just disagreeing with you they are not angry about it.

Nope. My parents are as clean cut and normal as they come. My father would get cranky once in a while but wouldn't hit or berate anyone. He'd just say things like "pick up the damn socks, I'm not your maid".
Typical parent stuff, frustrated with messy children.
And I don't think I'm all that "angry" or "disrespectful". If I were, I think I'd get more hate mail than I do.
Beliefs don't automatically deserve respect. They aren't somehow innately entitled. I respect your right to adhere to whatever belief you so choose, but I certainly don't have to respect the belief itself simply because it's a belief.

They just published a study: angry atheists come from abusive homes. Conclusively. And exclusively.
Angry Christians were never raised in abusive homes. Their anger comes from eating stale crackers on Sundays.
What is wrong with you, woman? This is a pretty ignorant "question."

yes, if the abusive home/environment means america. yes, i was raised in america where the many have insisted that
god hates fags,
abortion doctors must be killed to prevent any more "murder,"
interracial marriage is unbiblical,
we all need a savior from our meaningless lives,
not wanting to lie to children about santa clause makes one a bad parent,
God will torture us forever if we can't rationalize the point of worshipping something that we can't even establish if it exits or not,
we are not worthy of our God's love
and so on and so forth.
you make think that "we as civilized human beings should be respectful of the beliefs of everyone" but if you have even one of the beliefs that i mentioned above then your beliefs are noth worthy of anyone's respect
