People think they have all the answers. Yes, pride is a huge factor in not believing in something other than self. Understanding is another issue. For some reason, some people find it easier to believe that life just appeared or happened, rather than be lovingly created by a Creator.

It hurts nothing to believe in the bible, in face, the bible is one of the mose influencial books in the world. I believe everyone should read it just to understand better. I think a lot of times people come across the wrong ways with religion. They get pushy, and are too judgemental. Some lifestyles are not right, but as a Christian, we should love the person regaurdless, and our actions should show it.

It's not the believing that is a problem, it's what you do with it that is. You have a right to believe what you want, and why would that matter to us? It's not pride that keeps anyone from believing...it's just that to us, God is just like Santa-- a myth. Simple.

Believers only become a problem when they get into our governments, courts and schools with their ideas and try to rule the US under their religious beliefs. That forces everyone to live by the beliefs of one religion, which is wrong. People should ahve a right to do what they want with their lives without a religion they don't believe in stopping them.

Presuppositionalism. You're assuming -- without evidence -- that there is some higher power, and you're also assuming that the bible is the expressed will of said power.

Even if that's true, exactly what kind of higher being gives explicit instructions on the stoning of sassy children and expects women to keep silent in church (among other things)?

It can hurt if bible-belief becomes part of public, civic life. A good example is the ongoing effort by believers to insert the notion of "intelligent design" as science curricula in public schools. Belief in nonsense may not look like it's harmful, but indeed, it's an insidious mindset that does harm when used to make laws, establish curricula, or modify health care.

What does it hurt to believe in Amon-Re and the Egyptian Book of the Dead? Is it just your pride that keeps you from believing? Don't you just think you know more than a higher power?

It hurts ME if you decide that you have the right to force your beliefs on me. As long as you do your thing, and I can do mine, I have no problem with what you believe.

I do think you should read the whole thing, though, and make sure you understand it. I can safely say you don't really know what's in it, because very few Christians do.

Aw, get real!

You think I'd have ANY pride if people knew I believed in giants and talking snakes and mules, and people-eating whales and combustible bushes that carry on a conversation. YOU say there's a higher power! I think there's NOT! I cancel you out.

I think it may also be: A lack of understanding, a lack of effort, arrogance, excuse hunting, struggling to find a reason to feel better about themselves while bringing others down to their level. Maybe they want to, or know they should believe, but they are looking for a reason not to.
