LOL
Hear Ye, Hear Ye - Socrates bares witness to faulty salesmanship.
LOL
Welcome to the world of retail salesmanship my friend. You have finally received a full, well rounded experience of desperate people trying to make a sale because of commssions.
LOL
OK buddy, heres the deal.
1. there are fewer games for PS3 because its not so popular - Wii and 360 are by far much more popular and suposedly more fun to play with - I would venture to guess that PS3 will go the way of eight tracks and beta tapes unless they come out with real popular games/graphics and a price that beats the others
2. it will work on other monitoring systems besides HDTV - the quality is fine for what you need it for and its not required that you spend 8000 for a new set
Most every sales person in stores of this nature get paid a minimum hourly wage and commssions. Obviously the bigger ticketed items will net them a bigger commission. Be leary of anyone who is trying to sell you something you never asked for and most especially someone who tries to connect a totally different thing with what you are talking about - ie racing cars has nothing to do with you buying a PS3.
Salespeople do these things to touch your emotions. If they can connect with your emotions it makes selling you something so much easier. They are taught that everyone has a MDBM (most dominate buying motive) and if they can connect with that motive they can make a sale. The sad part is they never really find out what your MDBM is so they loose the sale and create a very negative buying experience for the customer. Those sales people that are really good will find out why you are really there and sell you something you want....my brother is the best I have seen - once, he even sold a blind man a subsrciption to a newspaper.
Not many people are logical buyers - most are emotional or impulse buyers. If you recognize the BS for what it really is - it is easy to walk away. Stay in tuned with what you want, the price range you want, and you should be OK. Dont let anyone talk you out of what you are looking for unless he can prove it logically.

First of all, the PS3 is already worth buying without an HDTV. I currently use a CRT televison with my PS3 and the graphics are stunning, but I do plan to get a HDTV within a year at least.
That guy that said the PS3 is **** obviously is a Xbox 360 fanboy and doesn't want to admit the truth that the PS3 is better. Continue to save up money for the PS3, it will be worth it.

good for you! you took the high road... maybe he races his RC cars! haha! those gamestop geeks dont know anything they're all biased... i have a ps3 bought the HD cables and have an hdtv that can put out 1080i and you know what? for a while i forgot to put on the HD settings and finished lair and heavenly sword without HD when i finally put the HD settings on i was bummed that i didnt put them on earlier because it did look prettier and the image is sharper and more detailed... but i still enjoyed playing the games even though it wasnt HD... so what i really enjoyed was the games not the prettiness of the game... so dont listen to the haters of the ps3... you know why they're all ganging up on the ps3? cuz there are more jealous other console owners who wished they owned a ps3 than ps3 owners who wished they had another console... haha! just kidding! just have fun playing games man... it really doesnt matter what console you buy as long as youre contributing to the growth of the gaming community... :D

As important as Graphics are I mean do you buy games for graphics? No, you do it for game play, and I mean a decent HDTV (720p) will only run you 700bucks nowadays maybe less if you don't need a name brand. It seems like you know your stuff, so I'll just say an HDTV is needed for PS3, but not a $8000 1080p one, (or even $2000 for that fact)
ps...3000 points!

trust me, the ps3 is sweet no matter what you have it hooked up on. and the myth of ps3 not having good games is over. the ps3 has lots of good EXCLUSIVES out right now. i am currently hooked on ratchet and clank. that game is sweet. but as soon as i beat it i am sure i will go back to warhawk. another great game. i have a 37 lcd tv for my ps3 and it looks amazing. we hooked it up to my cousins regular tube tv and it still looks sweet. not as good but close. dont listen to the 360 fanboys. about 6 months ago they had reason to gloat. not anymore. the tables have turned. the ps3 is a beautifully built and put together machine. never had problems with mine. i had several problems with my 360 till i realized owning that system was a problem. yes i had one. it would be a good system if it was built well. but its not. you are going to love the ps3. congrats

ok the ps3 is worth buying with out an HD TVplayer. The game you want to get is COD4 for ps3 because it has 18 player on line where 360 only has 16 also ps3 is free. they both have 4 player online.

HDTV of course is good for PS3, picture is great and so on, but it isn't a must. I enjoy my PS3 on regular 100Hz 25" CRT and I'll tell you, graphics are amazing!

Having HDTV/Plasma Big Screen tv definitely helps. It is true that there isn't that many good games for the PS3. There is a reason why Nintendo Wii and X-Box 360 is so popular and why PS3 is not.
