I have an HD-A2. Works great as both an HD DVD player and a normal upconverting DVD (and CD) player.
With prices dropping below $200 (from $399 6 mo ago) its a good deal and half the price of Blu-Ray. As a special at Wal-Mart (and I hear at Best Buy) for $99 it's a steal.
People will tell you Blu-Ray is superior but the fact is there is insignificant difference in video and audio quality.
BTW, Warner Bros, who are currrently producing both Blu-Ray and HD DVDs, will be making a decision in January (approx) as to which single format they will sell. If hardware sales translate to disk sales .... as it probably will ... they will choose HD DVD. And if Warner go3es HD so will the rest of the world. And finally the stupid 'format war" will be over!

it depends on which side you want to take.HD dvd or bluray which a ps3. a ps3 for $400. subtract 200 for it being a bluray player and its a $200 system. thats the cheapest system on the market so i would say get a ps3 but if you dont like it then why not get a hd dvd player
