When I was little, I was TRUE believer. Then Sunday school came in and some of the stories didnt make sense to me. School didnt make my faith any stronger. Around 9th grade, I started learning about the history of all religions especially Christianity. It was like the more I learned, weaker my faith became; Praying didnt help either. Every now and then when my life gets incredibly up bearable, I mock God to see how bad He can really make it. By the end of high school, I was thought God to be a prick. Now im sitting getting ready to say out that I denounce God. Should I have ignored religion's history? Is ignorance bliss?

I respect your post and hope not to be too biased as I am an atheist.

You have realized that there is a good chance that religion is a form of political-philosophical organization necessary for many old time civilizations in order to maintain their inhabitants, which became a tool of unlimited power by more than one man to manipulate masses and went way out of hand to the point that people with reason and no excuse rather believe that the Earth was made in six days in order to fulfill their fantasies of living in heaven when they die (not the impossibility of what I'm saying) in stead of being logical and using their brain's most important ability: UNcommon sense.

PS: many people keep saying GOD IS REAL, YOU HAVENT SEEN THE PROOF/TRUTH...

I wish I did, I wish this people who claim to KNOW this as a fact would PROVE it or show me this TRUTH. sounds more like infant-brainwashing...

Craig,
I have a news flash for you . You never had faith. You had a superstition, that you grew out of. The stories you read didn't make sense because they didn't make sense period. And now here you are. You've probably never really had a conversation with any intelligent believer in your entire life, most believers you do know are blindly following out of fear and ignorance and you wonder why anyone with an ounce of sense would follow a mythical boogie man anymore than would believe in Santa Claus. You might even run into people who say they have strong faith and they're total self-righteous bigots. And prayer was a waste of time to because nothing you asked for came true, why believe in a God if you can't benefit from it, you see evil people getting what they want and you , one of God's believers gets screwed. So here you are, its all pretty cut and dry. My response to you is very simple. You are actually in the first step of faith, you have rejected the superstition part and now you are ready to really learn what its really all about, if you want to. and you don't have to. These pages are full of people who have rejected God and are quite happy and secure about it. No problem, its your choice. These pages are also full of people that don't have faith , they follow superstition. They have no idea what "reason" is and they have blinders on so they don't have to. My guess is is that you don't yet know either for sure. I am happy to talk with you about it as I am sure several of my atheist brothers and sisters would too. My advice is start talking to people who know something pro or con, ignore the fools on both sides and then decide.

Of course some of the stories (in the Holy Bible) don;t make sense but it doesn't hurt to ask. First of all, Christianity isn't a religion, RELIGION is filled with unfull filled prophecy, Christianity is filled with prophecy that happened and continues to be full filled buy the one true God, remember Christ is the ONLY way to heaven, not man made RELIGION. Don't believe what ever those History Books tell you about Christianity, Bible tells it all. Don't stop praying either, doesn't mean if something that you prayed for doesn't come true or be answered doesn't mean He (God) isn't there and listening to you. He loves you if you realize or not. God Bless,,, I'll be praying for you.

I have the same problems to and i realize the older i get the more i think about my religion being a fake and just somthing made up becuase none of us were born around the time all these things with Jesus started to happen so how do they kno that the holly bible isn't just a myth that people got together just to have the future people to do good things and to believe that if we do good we will get rewarded. But I was brought up to belive in Jesus and God and if my ancestors have believed in him and things worked out for them all i can do is trust that and i think that's what you should do and if you go to church you should talk to someone their and ask them questions. I kno you probably think i'm a grown woman but i'm a 13 year old and you can take my advice or leave it but I usualy never stear anyone wrong i'm allways the person to come to when thiers a problem or question.

Well Im a Catholic and I sorta feel the same way you do. And maybe being a Christian isnt for you. Maybe you should revert to a different religion or no religion at all. And no you shouldnt ignore a religions history because it shows what the religions morals are. And Ignorance is bliss for those who are young and deserve it. Yes ignorance is bliss, but it isnt good for those older. IF you want to denounce God its your choice and your body. If you dont want to denounce really then try and find good things in your life he might have given you. Like a paycheck or a nice smile from someone. Its all your descicion

The Bible is just so vey much true and you are one of the strong evidence. The Word of God will either draw an honest person to confess that he needs a Saviour in the person of JesusChrist, or a prick thinking person. Well brother you are free to think and do whatever you want to do. Christ never die for man's attitude. Christianity is not a religion. It is a life live in the life of the resurrected Christ as this is the only hope for man. Eternal Llife. And Christ demonstrated it personally by his resurrection from the dead. The ultimate dividing line is "Whosoever will may come". God respect your human right.

With a liar, you just don't take that person's word into account, you have to look at that person's history.

And you're right - the history of that religion, tells us a lot about that religion, instead of only listening to what that religion says and claims...

If you want the truth about religion and spirituality, etc. I suggest you follow up on 'The Talmud Jmmanuel' text.
This is not about worshipping a God that is not there, but about being in touch with your own spirit.
And life and living is about self responsibility - which you can never escape from - the consequences of the actions you do.

these stories were made up to help the people of the time understand the unknown. ie an eclipse; they thought the world was ending. It helped them not to be so fearful.
there is a difference between religion and faith in a higher power/supreme being. I was catholic found it not to be terminal
and left the CHURCH never lost my faith in god.
there are a lot of christen based churches check them out and take what feels good and make your life better
what you ask for you will get, and that's also called karma.
not just religious rederick

You seem to be going through an anger phase about it. I do not believe Gods exist . It is just mythology. How religion actually works is interesting in its own way.

If you feel you are angry at God you should take a look at that. You can not be angry at something that does not even exist. That would be nuts.
Maybe you are angry at being lied to. If that is the case get over it. Practice your critical thinking skill and make sure your B.S. detectors are working.
Lies and liars are everywhere.
There are other things that come out as anger too.
You really should examine them, and then you can fix your anger and live much easier.

It would be for an unbeliever but not for someone who's known him then walked away.Sometimes people get involved with different religions and then they find they don`t believe everything they hear.So they go some where else and then they find fault with the new religion. The problem is people don`t study themselves. You must Pray and Study and ask The Holy Spirit to help you understand what is truth. If you want to know then you will receive an answer.Don`t let others tell you how things are meant to be you must find out for yourself. That`s what the word says," to work out your own salvation with much fear and trembling".
