Pharmacist here...yes you can take them together...as long as you have food on your stomach & no alcohol. They work differently and don't interact with each other so there's no worry there. Oxycodone is a narcotic which blocks the pain from your brain to the pain, whereas the IBU is an anti-inflammatory that actually decreases inflammation & blocks pain by blocking prostaglandins.

Hi Lovely,
I am a Chronic Pain Sufferer (I have Lupus and Fibromyalgia).
I am rx'ed Percocet (Oxycodone) which is combined with varying amounts of Tylenol (acetaminephin i.e. The "APAP" part of oxcodone/APAP).
Go ahead and take the Ibuprofen, but DO NOT TAKE ANY additional Tylenol as you are already taking some in the Oxycodone.
What has worked best for me is to start with the Oxycodone, and then 2 hours later take my dose of Ibuprofen. Then follow that with another dose of Oxy in another 2-4 hours if the pain is still around. I feel they have a synergistic effect and the Ibuprofen definately enhances that pain reducing properties of just Oxy alone. This is also a technique to use if you are trying to stretch the time between taking the Oxy.
If you don't feel you are getting enough relief from the Oxy , if your tummy can handle it try to take the Oxy on an empty stomache. When taken with food it seems to have a slight efect on the effectiveness of the medication. If it causes nausea/diarrhea etc...contact your doc and see if they can call in something to help with the nausea (i.e. phenergan or Reglan), or simply take it with a very light amount of food.
Take care, I'm wishing you a speedy recovery! Email me if you have any questions, I'll be happy to help clarify anything you need.
Also, keep in mind I'm not a DR (however I going back to school to become one) and you should call your pharmacy and ask them if the above listed would be accurate for you.

Amanda G the pharmacist has it right.
Here's the MD additional note.
Yes, you can take them together.
They augment each other for pain control by the two mechanisms Amanda explained.
She tells you to take them with food to avoid the nausea
that is common if these are taken on an empty stomach.
Alcohol can potentiate (increase) the central nervous system depressant effect of the oxycodone which is a narcotic stronger than codeine. You should not be driving under the influence of this medication. Hope you don't need these for long. I'm guessing you just had wisdom teeth removed.

Oxycodin is a strong painkiller and normally you would also take ibuprofen for pain...so, I'm not sure why you would think of taking both at the same time. Call your doctor's office to confirm how these need to be taken!

How should I take ibuprofen?
Use exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger amounts or for longer than recommended. Use the lowest dose that is effective in treating your condition.
Do not take more than your recommended dose. An ibuprofen overdose can damage your stomach or intestines. The maximum amount of ibuprofen for adults is 800 milligrams per dose or 3200 mg per day (4 maximum doses). Use only the smallest amount of ibuprofen needed to get relief from your pain, swelling, or fever.
A child's dose of ibuprofen is based on the age and weight of the child. Carefully follow the dosing instructions provided with children's ibuprofen for the age and weight of your child. Ask a doctor or pharmacist if you have questions.
Take ibuprofen with food or milk to lessen stomach upset.
Shake the oral suspension (liquid) well just before you measure a dose. Measure liquid medicine with the dosing syringe provided, or with a special dose-measuring spoon or medicine cup. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.
The ibuprofen chewable tablet must be chewed before you swallow it.
If you use this medicine long-term, you may need frequent medical tests.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Do not allow the liquid medicine to freeze.
Read all patient information, medication guides, and instruction sheets provided to you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

Sure. It's a good combination. Chances are your oxycodone pill has APAP in it. An equivalent is the hydrocodone/APAP combinations, or the one with hydrocodone/ibuprofen.
