if i only keep a female parakeet, will it still lay infertile eggs like chickens do?

Yes, we had a cockatiel and it laid eggs! The vet told me (and I don't know if it's true or not) that since the light stayed on in the kitchen (where the bird lived) thats what caused it to lay eggs. However, that was back in the early 90's so I don't know if thats true or not! But to answer your question...yes it will!!!
