I'm not 100% sure on the process. I want to live there, and get married to my boyfriend (who is american and an american citizen). What do i have to do to get to that stage, and how to i go about citizenship? Also, if you're getting married to someone thats already a citizen, does that make the process faster?

I didn't ask for suggestions where to move. I asked for how to move to america.

The process will take a few months. But not as many if you're already married when you file. I had a buddy go through this when he married a japanese woman.

As for America sucking; we have our problems, tis true. But there are MANY worse places to be today. I'd rather be here.

OK, you want to move to the US to get married to your US citizen boyfriend (fiance). Please research the K-1 Fiance visa.
After you arrive, you must marry within 90 days and apply to Adjust Status to Permanent Resident.

2 years after your PR application is approved, you will file a petition to show that you didn't get married just to evade immigration law.

3 years after your PR application is approved, you can apply for US citizenship. This does make the process faster, because if you are not married to a US citizen for the 3 years, you wait 5 years to apply for citizenship.

The official Immigration site is uscis.gov; search for How Do I Bring My Fiance for an outline.
There are also many user groups that explain it in plain English; the best one is www.familybasedimmigration.com

good luck to you and I wish you all the best in your marriage and your new country

I don't know many particulars, but I know it is not a simple process. You will have to prove that you are not getting married for the express purpose of becoming a citizen. Weird? Our nation is so skeptical of the "illegal' immigrant problem that the process makes little sense to many people. You might need to hire an attorney to help. I might start by contacting your Australian consul to get advice. The American process is so convuluted that many give up and just stay illegally, even those who arrived legal with proper visa, etc.

You want a fiance visa or else to marry then get a spousal visa.

It is NOT automatic on marriage (so many people are confused about this...) you do have to apply. However, people from countries with few overstayers tend to have an easier/faster time of it as I understand.
