7:00P.M-7:00AM and I enjoy it, I have alot more time to myself I think and if you're younger days off you can party and not worry about being tired from staying out late.

My friend works the 11pm-7am (aprox) for the NYPD in Washington Heights. He loves it. He gets up at around 4pm, runs a few errands, meets up w/ friends getting off work, hangs out a little bit more and then goes into work. He worked his first 7 months in the 32nd precinct where it was pretty crazy but most nights up there are pretty quiet. They drive around, chat, answer some calls, go home.

These guys working the 12 hour shifts must be brutal. the 7 to 7....thats gotta be so taxing on the body.

I currently work 2:30-11:30pm. It's not that bad.

I've worked 11p-8a and it sucked big time. I didn't sleep well for the duration of working the shift. But I had a friend who did just fine so it may depend on you.

Not normally. You are pretty much left alone to do what you need to do. No one looking over your shoulder all of the time. I actually prefer night shift to a swing shift.

After a while it is so hard to wake up and get ready for work.Your body feels so tired .Weekends and holidays really suck fights, drunks, juvenile activity, responding to alarms. And then trying to stay awake as you are off duty trying to get home with out getting sleepy at the wheel.

Yes it does. But usually not till you've done it for a while.. Like I just did a year of nights, and it sucked big time. If your busy like summer nights it's no big deal, but winter nights are long and boring especially if your in somewhat of a small town. (50,000 people)

I have always liked the graveyard shift....
(approx 11pm-7am'ish)
fewer supervisory personnel around.
Second shift is another matter...
i.e approx 4 to midnight.
never liked that shift...liked it less when I was 18-19.....
cut into partying time.
never lasted long on second shift.

worst of all is ROTATING SHIFT.
a week or two day shift...then week or two second shift...then week or two graveyard....
that really sucks.

I worked the grave yard shift for 10 years. All my court time was over time, and when I was going home, everyone else was going to work. Had the whole day to myself.

3 to 11 is the worst for me. It justs seems to tear up the day. 11 to 7 isn't near as bad. It gives you lots of daylight to do things, including looking for another job if you can't stand it.
