Well, just a few things you should know. First, the doctrine of Jesus as God in the Flesh is attested in the earliest known Christian writings, nearly 200 years before Constantine. Even a superficial reading of early Christian literature shows that the Deity of Christ was universally accepted among early Christians (with the exception of a little-known sect called the Ebionites).
Second, Constantine did not found the Catholic Church (whatever that means). There is no substantial change in Church government, structure, organization or law from the pre-Constantine Church of the early 4th century to the post-Constantine Church of the mid 4th century.
Third, Constantine did not unite any Christian sects. Quite the contrary - the council of Nicea actually solidified the divide between Arian and Orthodox Christians. And Constantine's role is greatly exaggerated - he actually opposed the decision of the council against the Arians, and exiled the Orthodox bishops from Constantinople.
Fourth, Constantine had nothing whatsoever with the decision of which books were accepted and which were rejected. He was quite rusty at Greek, and had never read any of the Christian Scriptures. The bishops at Nicea convened in private, without Constantine, and decided which books they needed copied. Along with this is the misconception that the council of Nicea determined the content of Scripture. Actually, the work on the Bible took place after the Council of Nicea, and no canons were issued. All they did was order 50 printed books, and determined which writings they wanted copied. And the books actually included many books that were not accepted as Scripture in the first place.

Did Jesus not indicate he was God? Read John 10:22-39, especially verses 30-33. Why did the Jews try to stone Jesus? For "blasphemy" because Jesus "claim[ed] to be God" (verse 33).
The early Christians did not "proclaim" Jesus as God; they recognized him as God. See Matthew 16:16 and John 20:28.

Jesus did indeed indicate he was God.
Rev. 22:13, "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End."
John 8:58, "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!"
John 8:12,"When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
John 10:30,"I and my Father are one."

This is what Jesus did, barely adequate in English to describe what is actually written in the original Greek, I will post under the scripture key words that the English just doesn't touch on well enough. I put the words that I drew from in English in caps so that you know which I have a Greek definition of:
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, BEING in the FORM of God, thought it not robbery to be EQUAL with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Jesus was unique, prophesied to come, and revealed to be 'God is with us'. He is called 'God' by God, and holds many stations as Lord, King, God, Savior, Annointed, Messiah
( Christ ) , Chief Cornerstone, Faithful and True.
There is no way to completely read the scriptures with understanding, and miss these things.

Jesus started a clandestine anti-slavery movement that plauged the Roman slavemasters for 300 years. He became the most famous man in the world of the slaves. Constantine neutralized the Jesus anti-slavery movement in 313AD by converting chatel slavery to serfdom, creating christianity to manage the serfs as slaves for the nobility, and made Jesus the deity of this 'religion'. The "bible" was written to lay out the rules that kept the serfs as slaves.

Jesus is the son of God/God. It really is confusing but it's the truth. Jesus did all those miracles and you still doubt? The blind received sight the lame walked and those who had leprosy were cured the deaf heard the dead were raised and the good news was preached to the poor. look at Matthew 11:2-11:6. Most of it all though is about faith since we were not there to witness these miracles.

Oddly enought, you stated that you never saw Jesus referred to as God in the scriptures, but quoted the passage that says just that
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.......14 And the Word became flesh

Elijah, Elisha, Moses.. all of these Individuals Performed Miracles and None of them Claimed to be God.
When Mary was alerted about her becoming Pregnant, she was Not told that she by the Angel Gabriel that she would be Carrying " GOD" in her Womb. People want to believe what they want to believe, like people seeing the so called " Virgin " Mary in Pizza's and Omelette's. Jesus Died for Mankind Not God. Can you Imagine The opportunity that would have presented to Satan Knowing that Almighty God Died? What of the Angels in Heaven.. knowing their Creator is Dead...Please...!!!!!

Jesus was the Son of God while he walked this earth, but he IS God, and Jesus DID indicate that he was God. He received worship from his disciple, Thomas:
John 27Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe."
28Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!"
29Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
(New International Version Copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984 by International Bible Society)
and he received worship from his other followers:
Matthew 8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9Suddenly Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me."
(New International Version Copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984 by International Bible Society
He also claimed authority ascribed to God alone:
Matthew 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
(New International Version Copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984 by International Bible Society)
He also showed his divinity by raising the dead (power over life and death), forgiving sins (authority over condemnation or salvation), casting out demons (spiritual authority), calming the storm (authority over creation), and healed (worked) on the Sabbath (authority over the law).
If you're going to say Jesus was a prophet, then you have to accept what he said about himself, and his acts, which proved what he said about himself.
