The use of alcohol is not the sin. It is the abuse of alcohol that is dangerous. It has been proven the 96% of violent crimes are committed while under the influence of alcohol. Our prison system is loaded up with people who have abused alcohol and committed violent crimes against others while they were drunk. Sobber, they never would have done it.

The Qu'ran of the muslims specifically forbids alcohol as a beverage . The Bible is different. Proverbs 36:4-9 actually bans alcohol for KINGS or rulers but says that it is okay for the poor peo[ple and the miserable.
My best guess is that Christians have come to the conclusion that much sin emanates from the use of alcohol and so the drinking itself must be considered sinful. Again the SCRIPTURES do not ban it but they have chosen to TREAT it as a sin based on their own reasoning.
This does not neccesarily aply to ALL Christians who may not all believe this way and I AM NOT MAKING A MORAL JUDGEMENT just trying to explain where it comes from.

Alcohol is a sin for Muslims (I don't know about the Christians) because we believe that alcohol makes people drunk and do not think right. In Islam, we are peaceful people who aren't suppose to act dum. So it's a blessing that alcohol is a sin, because it makes you drunk. Here is one of our sayings:
Al kamru jumma ul ithm (in arabic language. This is in transliteration)
This means: Alcohol constitutes many sins.
The reason why I don't give too much about Christians, is because I am a Muslim, and I don't want to be saying things that might be wrong about Christianity. It's a part of Islam to be kind to other religions. I hope this helped you!

People believe that it's a sin because its not respecting their bodies. Our bodies are temples of the Holy Living Spirit and therefore people believe it's wrong to drink.
But Jesus' first miracle was turning water into wine. The Bible does say that it's wrong to drink to the excess (get drunk...I forget where that's found, sorry). Also some people are Alcoholics which is why some denominations don't allow wine at communion to help some people not be tempted. It's all about your physical age, and your temptations really.

The same reason some people think it's a sin to smoke pot - it's a cultural superstition that has nothing to do with the actual text of the religion they claim to follow.
Except maybe the Mormons - I don't know enough about their book to know if there's a specific prohibition in it against alcohol or not. I do think the Koran has specific anti-alcohol verses, though.
All I know is that Jesus turned water into wine, and if weed had been native to the Middle East, he'd have taken it into the desert with him. And nobody is going to convince me that the guy who wrote Revelations wasn't into the poppies or hash.

Well, drinking alcohol is not a sin. It is "anything that you do in excess" is a sin. Drinking alcohol is not a sin. Getting drunk is.

The drinking of alcohol was banned (made a sin) for the common people (serfs, peasants, slaves) by the christian church tens of centuries ago in an effort to maximize the productivity, and therefore the profitability, of human slavery, for the Roman aristocracy. While the nobility no longer exists and former serfs gets a measure of compensation for their toils, the church still continues to protect the wealth of capitalists and provide them with cheap and reliable labor to enhance their wealth.

Fab Momma,
Drinking Alcohol causes people to lose respect for you and you become unable to influence them in a positive manner. If you are unable to influence and teach them then you are unable to do what Christ commanded of HIS Disciples in Matthew 28:18-20. We are expected to reach out and teach others and partaking of the alcohol definitely takes that possibility from you in many ways. Have a great weekend.
Thanks,

I don't exactly know. Drinking alcohol in general is not bad at all. But if you are becoming drunk, then that is a sin. 1 Corinthians 6: 9, 10- "9Â What! Do YOU not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men, 10Â nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God’s kingdom."

Sin is what happens after you drink the alcohol, not the alcohol itself.
