I spend about $10 on cat litter and about $35.00 on cat food. Mine also gets a few toys for under $10.00 a month. What products do you swear by and what have you used that was a waste of money?

I have three cats and I spent about $70 a month of food, $5.00 a month on litter (see below why so little), maybe $10 a month for toys and unfortunately this year with a very sick cat about $200 a month on vet bills - $1,000 in this past month when I lost him.

Speaking of vet bills I see far too often on here people that can't afford to take their pets to a vet. If you can't afford to care for your cat you have no business having one. You're not doing it a favour by taking it in if that means it's going to suffer when it gets sick or injured. If you can't set aside money to care for it or have an emergency credit card - don't get a cat - please.

For litter I highly recommend wood stove pellets. They're made of compressed pine sawdust and the same product as you'll see sold as "Feline Pine". But instead of paying $4 to $5 for a small bag wood stove pellets can be purchased at most Lowe's, Home Depot and some grocery stores for about $5.00 - for forty pounds! It's awesome stuff - totally eliminates all urine odor and totally soaks up the moisture.

As for other stuff I swear by I definitely would say please avoid cheap dry cat foods. Yes, they're inexpensive but they don't give your cat the nutrition needs and since they're so loaded with grain you just end up with a fat unhealthy cat. Spend the extra money for quality food and you'll have a happy, healthy cat who will save you money in the long run by being much healthier. If you can buy the cat food at a grocery store or WalMart - it's really not good enough for your cat.

For toys I recommend the feathers or tinsel or a combination of both on a stick toys. All of my cats love these and love that I'm the one making them move for them. Another good one's the "Da Bird" toy with a bunch of feathers on the end of a string with a long pole. The "Cat Dancer" is another one they go nuts for. Jingly balls and such are nice but toys that let you interact with your cat are best.

Another product I recommend is called "Marinated Mice". It's this little container of fuzzy mice packed in pellets of compressed catnip. After kitty's done playing you put the mice back in the container to "recharge" so they're always serious catnippy! My cats LOVE these and go absolutely nuts for them!

I have 2 female cats.

Cat Litter: I use a brand called the "World's Best Cat Litter". It's made of corn and is the clumping type. It does not get "stinky" AT ALL!! It's a bit expensive but you use much less than with clay type litters.

20lb bag for 2 cats: $25.00

Cat Food: Eukanuba Dry (for 2 cats) $50.00/month
Cat Treats & wet food: $10/month

Toys and other odds/ends: $20/month

Total: $95/month

** edit ** Waste of money? Depends on the cat. I suppose I've been lucky in that if I get something for one cat and she doesn't like, the other one usually does (maybe out of spite). About the only thing close to a waste of money, would be store brand clay cat litter. It may only cost a few dollars per bag, but you'll but a 5 times what you'd spend on "good" cat litter.

I have 3. A $25 28 lb bag of kibble lasts a month. Litter is lovely low cost-I get the larger great because I have extra cats however forty lb is approximately $15 and lasts three-four weeks. I additionally feed mine canned meals as soon as an afternoon, an oz. apiece, the meals I get is particularly prime finish at eighty¢/three ounce can. However, you have got to don't forget wellbeing disorders. Vet visits will also be pricey and it is particularly too unhealthy to have a puppy and now not brain it is wellbeing. You might have got to determine with nearby vets and discover out the expenditures. I retailer via giving mine their annually vaccinations myself and my vet simplest expenses one examination cost if I deliver 2 in directly. Some shelters present low-priced spay/neuter, chips and rabies. Sorry I are not able to be extra special, an excessive amount of geological change. I can let you know that meals, toys, muddle are not a tremendous rate, virtually any person can manipulate them-simply be definite you'll maintain Kitty's wellbeing demands.

God I spend FAR to much on my cats.....They go through a box of Whiskas Wet Packet food about every 5 days, they eat an entire bowl of dry cat food daily, and the 2 litter boxes are the battle grounds that show it all.....I buy them about 5 dollars worth of toys every month or two, the only ones they love are the ones attached to a stick with a string that you have to move yourself...which is great because it allows you to bond with your cats, and play time is bonding time.....I recommend getting an indoor cat house, since you just have one cat, you can get a small one, which is less expensive, but they LOVE them....it makes them SOOOOOO happy....I recommend this website: http://www.armarkat.com/70.htm They have cat furniture for a really good price, a lot of cat furniture is far too expensive....but they have theirs priced reasonably. I paid 110 bucks for mine and my cats adore it. It's like a "kitty gym" they scratch it and use it for climbing and playing exercises, which is important for a cat's mental and physical health. I also recommend a shelf or two for a window, so they can jump up and enjoy the outside view, you can buy a padded on at Petsmart, that's heated. Anyway, cats love the simple things...a soft, warm spot to sleep, loving attention, good food, comfort, and toys that make them feel like a real cat....
