Why won't Windows Movie Maker play the previewing clips?

Okay, so I'm making some vid right? I import the stuff, but when I edit it, it won't let me preview. Like, when I press play, it won't play. Or when I open a previous W.I.P. work, it won't let me preview.

I really need to get this project done, but apparently I can't get to preview the video. D:

"I import the stuff" - Importing what type of file (with extension)?

"when I edit it, it won't let me preview" Save before you preview, As what file type (extension)?

"when I open a previous W.I.P. work, it won't let me preview", again, what file type are you saving AS?
