A friend of the family used to make these wonderful green beans as a side for dinner.. but she's passed so I obviously can't get the recipe. She would use canned, or sometimes home grown, beans to start, and then cooked them on the stove. That's all I remember. But the way they tasted was amazing. Very buttery/salty. Maybe a little bit of pepper but nothing to really ruin the taste or make them spicey. I'm wondering if anyone out there has a favorite way they make their green beans. I'm craving them for dinner and even though I could throw them on the stove and toss in some salt and butter to taste, i've done this.. and they weren't quite what I had hoped for. Maybe there's an extra something to make them taste amazing. Any hints/tips? Thanks :)

Here's the secret (I like using frozen beans over the canned variety). Put the beans in the pot on the stove, if using canned beans, drain most of the water out, add a tablespoon of butter, a little salt and a little sugar. Stir and let the water cook off. As soon as the water is gone and the butter begins to sizzle slightly, it's done.

Yup - know what you're talking about.
Take some fresh green beans. Clean and chop into 1.5 inch lengths. Blanch in a pot of boiling, salted water for 3 minutes. Drain, hold under cold water.
Chop some garlic into tiny little pieces. Cut some carrots into thin discs [if you like].
Melt some butter in a pan, add the garlic - a few seconds later, add the carrots, 30 seconds later, add the beans. Toss and stir fry for about 2 minutes.
You're done - buttery green beans with carrots and a hint of garlic.
Hope this helps.

place the beans in a pot of boiling salted water on the stove ( lil tip for veg - if it grows under ground add to water then bring to boil, if grows above ground add to boiling water. part from new potatos add them to boiling water ) then cook the beans till done drain the excess water. add butter to a heated frying pan anuff to fill the pan wen melted add pepper and then add the beans fry them intill the butter Caramelizs the beans KEEP stiring whilst this is happen so the beans dnt burn n overcook do this for 2mins on medium heat *add galic if you wont* .... then hopeful they will taste how u wont them to =)
..... another way ... place a large pot of water on the stove add another lidded pot on top that will cover up the pot below so u can steam the beans.... ( if u have a steamer basket use it instead ) once water is boiled place beans in top pan cover the pan. steam 10–12 minutes or until tender. in a bowl mix some butter , salt, pepper and minced galic... once the beans are done transfer to the bowl coat the beans n then serve.
hope one of these ways turns out to be the one u wonted.

My favorite easy way to make green beans is to cook until done to your preference (I like mine past the crunchy stage but not overcooked), drain off all water, toss with a pat of butter and about a tablespoon or so of toasted almond slices or slivers per serving. You can salt and pepper to taste. One variation is to use garlic butter instead of the sweet butter.

My mom always cooks the canned ones for twenty minutes, and it does make them taste better. She cooks them with a couple of tablespoons of cooking oil in it.
