Well I have to run a mile in 12 minutes no more for pe (at private school) a few times a week and everytime I run it I feel very dead tired and make it in almost 5 seconds. If I go past 12 minutes I get an F. The track is 1/4 of a mile per lap so I have to run 4 laps to make the mile. I am not in really in good shape How can I make myself less tired when I run and make it in a little quicker?

When I mean I make it in 5 seconds I mean 5 seconds before the 12 minutes is up. Most of the time I make it in 11:55.

Wow you're really not in good shape. When I was in school doing this for PE most kids could walk the mile in 12 minutes, anyone who ran finished in at least 10. You're probably beyond help, my guess is you either need to lose weight, or gain weight, I doubt anyone who isn't obese or anorexic can't finish a mile in 12 minutes.

There's really no "tricks" to running if you're this bad, just try to get in better shape.

A person in good shape should be able to run a 6 minute mile. They're giving you twice as long to do it. If you're seriously worried about getting an F and really want to finish the mile in under 12 minutes you'll have to train on your own. Go out and run the mile at your leisure. Time yourself but don't try to do it in under 12 minutes, just do it as you feel comfortable. The more miles you get under your belt the quicker you'll be able to do them comfortably.

Well you said you are out of shape, so the only way to increase your stamina is to run every day. There's not a magical fix you do to make it easy.

It's just something you build over time. you have to do it gradually. Run every day, run for 1 lap, then push your self a little farther, like a lap and a half until you can do it all easily. it will take a while, but eventually you will do it with no problem.

but if you can do it under 12 minutes now, then who cares, just feel like crap for 20 minutes and your done.

Do some longer runs - make some of them 4-5 miles really easy, that will improved your endurance. Do them 3-4 times a week with one 6-7 mile run on the weekend.

well the obvious answer if u wanna become a better runner is to run more at home but also start drinking more water when u do run and the day of running.. you don't know how much good water does for ur body before, during, and after physical activities. Someone mentioned this already but also u can have sum1 run with u to keep a good pace but basically if u dont wanna struggle every week making time then u gotta keep in shape and run more outside of p.e.

Start walking every day up and down hills for 20 minutes. This will build some muscle in your legs and give you a bit of a cardio work out. Then, start speedwalking a mile. You should be able to do that in 20 min. Finally, start alternating walking and running. After that, you will be able to run a mile in 12 minutes.

I'm in bad condition too and i get around 9:55 on the mile. Try inhaling deep through your nose and exhaling through your mouth. Also, if your allowed listen to an iPod/mp3 player while you run to keep your mind off the running and the tiredness. If you cant listen to music talk to a friend while you run. That helps too. By the way pacing yourself doesn't mean going dead slow the whole way.

2 Major things come to mind when I think of your question. 1 is sleep, and 2 is diet. If you make sure you get a good nights rest the night before and then start your day with some cereal or oatmeal (the key is Carbs) that will be stored for energy later on. Also try not to eat 2 hours before you run. You need to let you system digest what you eat. Eat lightly that day, except for breakfast. (good snacks like granola bars and small carbs are good. Don't drink soda or candy)

In addition to what you already have to do at school, you may want to just do 2 or 3 wind sprints every other day. My guess is that you are not so much out of shape, but that you find it difficult to control your breathing so you have convinced yourself you are out of shape. If you do the wind sprints(just 20-30 yards), you will probably improve your one mile time by about a minute in three weeks with a minimum of effort.

you should try to run the first two laps at an easy pace, walk the third lap, and then run the last lap. I know that sounds hard, but i did it when i was in middle school, and not to brag, but i just got done with cross-country, and my mile time was 7:42. when i was in middle school, i wouldn't have even thought about making it in that time, so just keep pushing yourself, and things should turn out good.
