I have been trying for months now with no real cure. I have tried pills from the vet, K9 advantix, Frontline, I'm not sure what to do for her. I have spent so much money and she is still miserable. It seems to get better for a couple of days with the K9, but no difference at all with the Frontline. I don't know what to do and after charging me $200 the vet didn't help much either. Any suggestions? I don't know if the spot treatments just don't work as well on dogs with hair instead of fur or what. I just want to find some way to help my poor dog.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

Tried the Diatomaceous Earth powder, but it has been awhile and no change. I am taking her for a flea dip tomorrow and bombing the house.
Thank you everyone for your suggestions.

What you need to do is flea bomb your house wash all bedding, have your dog flea dipped and your yard sprayed for fleas and keep her on K9Advantix all in one day, after the dip you cannot put any flea collars or treatments on her for at least 48hours, I know it is hard to do but it is about the only actual cure. Even if she only goes outside to potty she can still pick up fleas and bring them in your house. Fleas live in carpets vacuum cleaners and bedding, and sewers and outside. They do not live on the animal they get on the animal to feed. All spot on treatments do not stop the fleas from getting on her they just kill them when they bite. K9Advantix is about the only one that repels them, but they still get on there any way. It will help maintain a lower infestation on her by killing the ones that bite. Any more questions feel free to e-mail me.

It has nothing to do with hair or fur - fleas like BLOOD. You have to get the spot-ons completely on the skin, not the fur/hair, so they can spread throughout the entire skin.
$200? Ugh. Didn't the vet tell you it's imperative to spray your house as well? This is where 95% of the fleas are living, so until you deal with that problem you'll never be free. Get some proper house spray from a vets. You may have to spray your house twice, 10 days apart, to get any newly hatched eggs
Depending on which tablets you were given this may not be helpful long term - Capstar kills fleas, but is not a preventative so it's only a short-term measure. Program tablets are only a preventative, they only sterilise fleas, they don't kill them. Stick with Frontline, Revolution or Advantage, which ever you like, and just make sure it gets completely on you dog's skin. And spray the house!

I have a Yorkie - also a dog with hair, not fur. We got fleas from our neighbor dog. My dog brought them in our house. I'm gonna tell you right now - this is a war. I tried a few things for a a few months until someone told me that I wasnt fighting the war right. (And I NEVER had to flea bomb my house! Although I did spray my dog with this nasty smelling stuff called paramite dip. But we sprayed the neighbor dog down too. It worked wonders on him! But not so much on my dog.) You said you tried pills. Where they CapStar? I love Capstar!! I have a pile of them stocked up just in case I see a flea! They will kill all of the fleas on your animal in a matter of minutes and they last all day - and can be given daily. Go to the store and get a flea powder for your carpets and a spray for your furniture. Vacuum and spray EVERYDAY! Wash everything you can at least every other day - anything the dog has been on/around, that includes your bedding and your dog's toys. It's a lot of trouble, but it's the only way to get rid of the little bastards once and for all. Since we got the fleas from our neighbor and we knew they were in our yard, we had our yard professionally sprayed twice. But between and after the professionals we spread some other chemical that my dad bought at Lowes. It's made especially for bugs in your yard. I personally think that helped more than the professionals.
Good luck!!

I recommend Diatomaceous Earth powder. Not only is it not all natural and not harmful in any way to your dog, but you can also sprinkle it on carpet and bedding. It will kill the fleas within 48 hours. You can find it in the garden center at Lowes, Home Depot or any other home improvement store. The important thing is that you have to get rid of the fleas in the house as well. Although I don't normally recommend toxins, you may have to flea bomb your house once to kill all the fleas. Make sure you have powdered your pup before bringing her back into the house. For more natural flea control tips, check out my page at:

First of all i want to say plz don't feed your dog garlic! its toxic to them. Now for your flea problem.
Most environments take 3 months to be flea free. All pets need to be treated for anything to work.
There are 3 types of flea meds that you can use.
Advantage- this is applied once a month.helps to kill adult fleas at the source, they bite your dog then it dies so no new fleas hatch.
Program- this prevents eggs from hatching and the adult fleas will die of natural causes. It can be given monthly by paste or tablet..or by injection that last 6 months
Revolution-applied once monthly topically. The advantage to this one is it also helps to prevent against heartworm, and parasite like mites and intestinal worms

Take a look in his ear -- if it seems inflamed, it's more than likely an ear infection -- my Lhasa is pretty prone to them, and so was the Lhasa I owned before him. Any long-eared dog is susceptible. Take a visit to your vet, and they can give you drops and/or cleaning solution that will make it better :-)

WOW, I truly sorry for your dog, (as we love r's also). They weighed less than 3.5 #'s when we got them! They are Pugs/Pekinese mix. Their mother died of neglect & fleas infestation!! We left on vacation the day after we got them, and got my daughter to take them to the vet for treatments!! He said, they were too young&little for this! We were at a loss?!?! We had stopped @ my oldest daughters home, and explained problem, she said, bath in DAWN DISH SOAP, WASH BEDDING, vaccume & throw away bag daily!! (Singles club).. My oher daughter at home did this, and low and behold, they did great!! That was 11 years ago, and they are still doing great! We use front line now! But we are for evergrateful to theoldest daughter for her help!!! The dawn, does dry their skin, so you must be careful with it. We wish he the best of luck wih your dog!!!
