For example say the US arrested the Iranian President while he was visiting the UN and the US says they won't release him until Iran pays back money for attacks on US solider's . This is just an example anyway what would happen ? I ask because I have had this discussion before and was told the UN would send a capture team to take the President back to his country . Although that's questionable to me .

So what do you believe would happen ?

the Iranian president has diplomatic immunity, if the us did this, the world would demand that he be released....you have no idea how bad the reaction would be, the world will make the usa kneel, trade would end, as would diplomatic relations with all nations. not to mention terrorism being embolden, and our ability to fight terrorism diminished. even the usa cannot deify the world, trust me.

First, the circumstance would have to be very unusual. Most foreign leaders have diplomatic immunity. They can not be arrested even if they commit a crime. The fact that they are a "guest' in this country would complicate things even more.
Second, The UN would do nothing. There is no such animal as a "UN capture team" The UN is hard pressed to deploy competent security guards, much less a professional rescue team capable of doing anything but getting themselves killed. ( Kofi Anan's family trains the UN troops...troops that are well know for either doing NOTHING....or raping 12 year old girls)
Third, probably what would happen is censure from countries around the world. The media and national leaders would scream but there is little they could do. About the only thing that might happen is all of our diplomats, politicians and businessmen would also be subject to harassment and arrest. The reason we grant diplomatic immunity is to protect or own citizens.

LOL Un Capture team? They can't catch a cold if they formed a committee in the arctic circle and went scuba diving. What are they doing to do? Thats the dumbest idea I have heard for a long time. It's awesome though, like some super heroes are going to sneak in and find him and break him out and fly him home on a flying surf board or something. Good movie plot there.
I believe the UN, well, Saddam doesn't care what the UN wants so why should anybody else? They aren't going to actually do anything to anybody, and especially can't do anything to anybody with money. Maybe a third world country they can offer to trade something but that wouldn't be case. The US is foolishly liberal and allows people to come here, berate the US on it's own soil and do nothing in response.

The U.N. is a civil organization, they have no Police Force or standing Military Force and certainly do not have any "capture teams", where you people hear this crap is beyond me.

I believe that a visiting head of State has Diplomatic Immunity, so unless the U.S. would be out to try and provoke a war, this would never happen.

For Kojak;

There is only one recognized school for the training of U.N. Peace-keepers, ands its located at the Military College, Curragh Camp, Kildare, in the Republic of Ireland, and the last time I checked, (yesterday) it was not being run by Kofi Annans family.

This college takes in Military Officers from countries around the world and teaches them how to work with other militaries that are assembled together for Peace-keeping Missions, it teaches them how to follow a basic strategy with regards establishing a secure area of operations, communications, logistics, for the Forces being assembled for U.N. peacekeeping Missions.

The soldiers from all the specific countries who contribute troops are volunteers from their countries military, trained in their own countries, before deployment on the specific U.N. Mission, and not raw recruits.

It has to be recognized that the standards of each countries military vary from each other, and African contributions have been poor in the past, but unless other countries offer to participate in the U.N. Mission then they, (the U.N.) have to take what they can get.

Recently the U.N. has been using African Continent troops in African problem areas, because it was felt to be more politically correct, and in line with Africans helping Africans and the use of "white" Europeans tended Africans to think of the more recent past when they were under the domination of Colonial masters from Europe.

Well, it wouldn't be for the money. The US froze billions of dollars in Iranian assets in 1979 when the Shah was deposed and it has never been returned. They would dip into that first if they wanted money.

The US already arrested Manuel Noriega and nothing happened. I doubt anyone could do much if the arrested Ahmadinejad

Ask Manuel Noriega, former dictator of Panama. Captured in 1988 and still in custody.
