Many parents shy away from disciplining either a very small child or a teenager. They are sure that the one is too young to understand correction and the other too old for physical indignity. Then, what age really a child should be disciplined?

Kids should be disciplined at day one. That is taught what is right and wrong and shown how to do right. I am not referring to spanking or punishment...but discipling or discipline or teaching.

It sounds as if you are equating "discipline" with corporal punishment! As the 1st An says, there are all kinds of discipline. Small children 2 to 4 can go sit in a chair for 5 minutes for some behavior unacceptable. 5 and above can gain the understanding--if the consequences are layed out clearly--that they will lose privileges or play things when they misbehave. Allowance can be docked if that's important to them. Teenagers can be grounded/lose the use of the family car for a period of time/allowance docked. Kids of all ages need to understand that there are consequences for ALL BEHAVIOR! The behavior that stays with the rules are rewarded; those behaviors that break the rules have negative behaviors. Adults have all SORTS of consequences at work; relationships; etc. in the form of money; legal and civil; family trust and respect or the lack of it-------------Regardless of age, physical and emotional abuse is always wrong. It only teaches children and young people to do the same to others!!

At ages between 5-8. Then after 8 years old, the child is disciplined and knows how to behave properly.

It all starts at the beginning of parenthood, when your baby comes home from the hospital. Your babies doctor, your mom and dad and even and older brother or sister can help you if you are having trouble. You can spoil a child but not to the point that when they grow up you have a monster. The are lots of books out there for good reading. Just remember to be consistant. Good Luck.

There are different types of discipline for different ages. Smaller children, it's time outs and toys taken away. Older children it's grounding from certain things or everything depending on what they did.
