Whenever you are clocked at speeding in excess of 40 MPH over the speed limit in Illinois, you may be charged with attempted manslaughter. However, many police will knock down a speed just over that amount to avoid the hassle of their jurisdiction prosecuting you over something a jury may feel is too excessive of a charge. Now for 100+ MPH over the limit, I could see the sympathy vanishing...

Depends on where you are , ..If I was the judge , my first two questions for you would be ,

1. What in the hell was you driving ?

and then I would have to ask you

2. If you were going 200 mph over the posted speed limit , how in the hell did you get caught ??

If a car or crotch rocket would do it , and you lived, I am sure it would be more than reckless driving ... I say thousands in fines , and many years in prison ..

Depending on WHERE you are the answer varies widely. The exact PUNISHMENT (you are NOT looking at a fine) would be determined on a case by case basis. Losing your license for LIFE would be a 'slap on the wrist' in this case. Surviving that speed on ANY public road means you got off easy.

Any car that is capable of traveling 200 MPH is NOT street legal in the US.

The fine would be 10 years on planet fantasy, because NO car on the road will even GET to 200 mph over the limit. Show me a street car that will go 255 mph. AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN! NASCAR cars top speeds are around 248mph, and those cars are built for racing. No car built for the street is going to TOUCH that. If you try...you're essentially committing suicide. You'd lose control or blow the engine...and then lose control.

You think there are STREET LEGAL cars that will go that fast? Riiiiiight.

You will most likely get your license taken away if you're going 200 over. I don't think it's possible to go 200 over....If you mean 20.. it's considered reckless driving and worth quite a few points depending on the state you are residing in.

Your question doesn't deserve an answer,it is moot, because there is no car which can do 200 mph.

That is usually considered dangerous and reckless driving which depending on the state can be several hundred dollars or jail time.

In my state you would lose your license. Not sure of the fine.
