They are SEPARATE entities. Jesus was born the son of God to the virgin Mary, but he was just a human being with powers and a goal from God. He died for us and sits at the RIGHT HAND of the father. God is the one talked about especially in the Old Testament, the all powerful deity. How can anyone say they are the same? And the Holy Spirit, well that one I have no idea bout, I usually just reject it as fancy terminology.

I'm not a Polytheist, Jesus isn't a God to me, he just is Jesus. Anyways, I'm an ex-Lutheran now turned Atheist. But I've always wondered this.

Here are some Bible verses that may help answer the question:

Jesus said, "Fear not; I am the first and the last:"

Revelation 1:17

I and my Father are one.

John 10:30

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God...All things were made by him...He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not...And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us.

John 1:1, 3, 10, 14

Jesus saith...he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

John 14:9

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

1 John 5:7

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: GOD was manifest in the FLESH, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, BELIEVED ON in the world, RECEIVED UP into glory."

--1 Timothy 3:16

"...CHRIST JESUS...being in the FORM OF GOD, thought it not robbery to be EQUAL WITH GOD: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."

--Philippians 2:5-8

"For unto us A CHILD IS BORN, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, THE MIGHTY GOD, THE EVERLASTING FATHER, The Prince of Peace."

--Isaiah 9:6

I hope I've helped answer your question about why people say that Jesus is God.

Come out of the past. Come into the light! Jesus was always with God from the beginning. He is the word and the word was with God and the word was God. The Holy spirit is God's spirit.God's gift to us that have faith and believe the word of God. Read what you are saying. Jesus was just a human being with powers. Do you know anyone now that is just a human being with powers? God had a goal but he also had a purpose.Salvation of man from genesis to revelations. Jesus did rise and he does sit at the right hand of the Father.
God's goal is to demonstrate the work of his spirit,by his son Jesus the Christ. Jesus said 'My father does all the work, for if you have seen me than you have seen the Father. I do exactly what my father tells me to do. I say what my father has told me to say." Are you lead by the spirit or are you a part of self. For if you know the Father then you would know the Son. Right? Then if you knew them then you would have been given the Holy spirit which confirms the truth within you. Ain't God good. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice. We no longer need goats, bulls, birds and lambs. No more wheat and grain offerings. We no longer have to deal with priest or ministers. God made us free,so now we can worship and go to God one on one in the name of Jesus. God gave Jesus control over life and death. He is our advocate to the Father. So we pray and ask in the name of Jesus; the author and finisher of our faith.

I don't think you will get any help here. Keep in mind that this is an issue that not all Christians agree upon. So, what is the right answer? I agree with you that Jesus is not God, because He cannot sit on the right hand side of Himself. Others will argue that. Many Christians believe in the Trinity, i.e., the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is what God sends to you when you accept Christ as your Savior. The Holy Spirit is meant to guide you and help you understand what is pleasing to God; It becomes a part of your heart.

Most probably because of the Trinity concept. The Father is God. The Son of God is Jesus and the Holy Spirit is the works of the Father.

OK, Here is why some people (including myself) believe that God is Jesus.

John 1:1 and 2
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.

You should read the in between stuff, but, to keep this short, I'll skip to the part that wraps the thought up.

John 1:14
The Word became flesh and made his dwelloing among us.

Now, if the Word WAS God, and the Word became flesh, does that not mean that GOD became FLESH (Jesus).

The reason why more passages illude to Jesus being God is because He wasn't stupid. He knew that, if he told people that he actually was God in the flesh, he would not be able to continue to do what it was that he came to do. Remember, that he could easily be killed because, once He became flesh, He was bound by the same laws of physics as we are.

His miracles were those of faith, which even Jesus himself says that we can accomplish if we had faith.

Just my interpretation though.

God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost.....
How could you see Jesus as anything but God....If his Father is God he is God also.....Jesus helped make the universe.....
The Father has turned all things over to the Son...Jesus is coming back to reign on the earth for 1000 years, then we enter another kind of realm.....we will have a new heaven and new earth...no need for even the Sun....there will be no night.....all things will be new.....

I don't feel you are an atheist, the way you asked the question speaks loud and clear, you believe in God, and that Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary, I agree God is God and Jesus is the Son of God, we think the same way

Do you know why most people simply cannot understand such concepts? Because they never bother to define these terms, that's why. If more people took the time to do so, there would be no misunderstandings concerning such things. Jesus Christ was and IS God in every sense of the term. Research the phrases "Son of God"; "Son of man"; "right hand of God", etc. You'll never ask such questions again. Too many people in the western world automatically assume that because such phraseologies as these aren't common in our language that their meanings are somehow lost to us. How sad that anyone would become an atheist simply because they know the definition of evolution, but never took the time to learn the meanings of such phrases as listed above.
