If you are talking about current belt holders, your question is inaccurate. The heavyweight division as aforementioned IS held by Europeans. HUGE Europeans.

If you are asking historically, most boxers are spawned from underclass groups. You could make the same statement about the lower belts and why Latinos are dominating that. Boxing is a way out of poverty..not a way to a living. Why would you box and get your head bashed in if you could go to college and get rich? You could surround yourself with enough money and people that you pay to take the beatings FOR YOU!!

You rarely, if ever hear of a rich kid being a successful boxer. Its happened, but not that often. True boxing starts with the underclasses and will always stay there. Im still wondering why both the Klitchkos are doctors and boxing...Id much rather have a practice.

I hate to say it but the others are right. Most heavy weight boxers come from very humble beginnings. You can start from jack johson, dempsey, marciano, ali, frasier, foreman, tyson, holmes... I think it would be interesting to know if any heavyweight champ grew up middle class or higher. I think the klichskos also grew up poor since russia is a poor country. So it makes sense that we have a lot of great heavyweights coming out of the old soviet union. and yes I said great! they are dominating! jeez

It's all about (perceived) access and opportunity. For many young black males the fight business may seem the only way to escape the oppressed environment they live in.

Why would a young white male choose such a difficult and dangerous life path when the doors of opportunity swing much wider open for him?

You'll notice that boxers tend to come from poor and/or oppressed environments.

You are living in the 1990's. Turn around and notice that today the heavyweight division is dominated by Russians.

As of today the Europeans and Russians are ruling the Heavyweight divison. The majority of African American athletes are playing football and basketball, young inner city African Americans aren't becoming pugilists anymore.
