When Israel won land from Egypt, they were required to return most of it, but Egypt REFUSED to accept Gaza and its inhabitants. Since that time Israel has been required (by the International community) to feed, water, and clothe their enemy. HAMAS (an acronym meaning "violence" in Hebrew) fires many rockets from Gaza into Israel on a daily basis. In the past, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) had targeted the perpetrators and launching area of those rockets, but in the last few days has decided to also turn off water and utilities for each rocket fired at them.

Arab countries have provided funds to the Palestinians, but those funds have been used for rockets and fire arms instead of building an infrastructure. Instead of Arab nations aiding the Palestinians with oil, Israel is required to purchase Arab oil in order to supply the Palestinians.

None of the Arab states will resettle the "refugees" and the West has also declined to resettle them. What other country has ever been required to return lands won in war, or to provide power and water to their enemy. Why is Israel always held to a higher standard? Has any other people languished in refugee "camps" for more than 50 years?

The USA's relationship with Gaza is one of passive enmity. Gaza is led by Hamas, an official terrorist party according to America and thus a hostile entity. The USA refuses to deal with this government in any way, instead preffering to bolster more moderate (it's all relative really) President Mahmoud Abbas.
The most important aspect of Gaza today is as the 'guinea pig' to gauge Palestinian self-governance. Israel left Gaza unconditionally i.e. no demands whatsoever. In theory then, the Palestinian people received everything that had demanded (that they had some right to of course; some demand all of Israel), and thus Gaza would show the world, and Israel especially, if they were capable of truelly founding and supporting their own country. Then Hamas was elected. They would later forcibly take over Gaza, leaving things as they are today.
Gaza is essentially a pseudo-country which has turned into a terrorist outpust and just another islamic fundamentalist country. The USA sees it as such, and rightly so.
Here's to hoping that the same doesn't happen in Lebanon!

The problem is that nobody wants Gaza. Israel has withdrawn, yet is told she must continue supplying electricity and fuel. Please note that no Islamic country has come rushing forward to offer help in this regard to the Palestinians living in Gaza.

Hamas were indeed voted into power democratically. The problem is that the minute they took charge, they went on the rampage, beheading and shooting any Palestinian that either didn't support them or who belonged to rival group Fatah.

The world clamoured for Israel to leave Gaza. She did, and all hell broke loose. Hamas refuses to recognize Israel's right to exist, so how can Israel negotiate any type of peace?

Read up about what Egypt did when she controlled Gaza. You might be in for a surprise.

L'chaim there is a basic international law you must be not aware of it is that there is no such thing as right of conquest.

That means that if Germany has a war with Poland and captures it then Germany is violating international law like i said there is no such thing as right of conquest their is a geneva convention that dictates this i think.

Last time i check Israel adheres to the
Geneva conventions atleast "officially"...

You may not realize but Gaza is only about the size of the city of washington DC the american capital.

Gaza is rather a small city sized entity onto itself, it is mostly semi-desert semi urban area, how can a tiny place like that feed a million people?

I'f there was a Palestinian state as dictated by the UN then Gaza would not have this food problem but because Palestine has been butchered up into the West Bank and Gaza, the west bank cannot export to Gaza or if they can it is very difficult.

This problem that Israel has in regards to supporting Gaza is a complicated one but if their was a Palestinian state as made by the UN, Israel would not have this burden.

I have to agree with you though on the Palestinians in refugee camps issue though it is appalying at the indifference from the arab side especially who themselves proffess to want nothing more then a palestinian state,

Gaza's importance in the Middle East is that no one wants it, but it seems to give everyone a head ace on how to deal with it.

Gaza is important as it is a Palestinian land and has real live people living there. I could not understand your question, as to exactly what you need. Right now I see it as important to USA only negatively. Hamas was democratically voted into power. But they are not accepted as a legitimate government. Therefore agreeing with Fatah, and now making it a "3 state solution" which is not any good I think. Thus in the end bringing yet more unrest to the ME problem. Is that a benefit to the US? ..............perhaps if it is looking for full out war with Hezbollah, and Iran, Syria.

I think it was Sharon that said we give them Gaza to prove they can build an efficient government and live in peace with Israel.
It was meant to be a test and they have failed terribly.
How could any self respecting Jew consider giving them more land to screw up.
