Well, 18 year olds aren't known for their maturity...then add alcohol. I assume those in charge decided that three more years would help. Personally, I don't think if you changed the legal age to 30...it would help. Setting those limits STILL makes whatever age that is...'the magic age'. 30 year olds would still have friends who would take them out and get them hammered.
That's NOT to say that I think the drinking age should be 12, lol! 21 isn't mature (usually) but they can hardly justify sending 18 year olds into combat...but still say they're not old enough to drink at 21. Even so, 18 year olds would be more likely to look at drinking as a sporting event (compared to 21 year olds). A 21 year old will often get ripped on their birthday, but they're less likely to be pressured into drinking later on...(every night, or every weekend) when they really don't want to.

No there is not any longer something 'incorrect' with the age distinction. yet, i imagine that there is capacity for issues to grow to be a subject matter because of the age distinction. the significant reason is that at the same time as it is in easy words 3 years, there's a lot of starting to be, replacing, and experiencing that takes position in those years between 18 and 21. What takes position at the same time as she's out with associates on the bar/ club, and also you won't be able to bypass? merely be careful :)

Because at the age of 21, most people start to show the maturity and good judgment needed to drink responsibly.
The 18 year olds showed that they didn't have that level of judgment and maturity.
I know - I was one of them!

I just asked my mom this question cause we were talking about it. She said something like your brain is still maturing but at age 21 is usually when it stops so thats why the drinking age is 21

if you have to ask this question then ur too immature to be drinking. come on ...how many 18-20yr olds do u really know that know their limits and are mature enough to drink...personally i dont know any! 21 is a good age to legally drink. they were extremely smart to have changed the law.

because of the people in power at that time, decided that even though an18 year old could vote, get married and/or fight for our country, were to stupid or immature too handle booze. Which is wrong on so many levels, but that isn't your question.
As for what did they did to make it until they were 21? well they did the exact same thing 18 year olds do today....lots of praying that they don't get caught!

nothing really, but when they changed it in NY from 18 to 19 they didn't have pictures on the drivers license and as I recall the older kids never had any trouble changing their id's to make it old enough to buy beer.
