There is, " …a danger inherent in all secretive societies for their cellular form devised by the founders for the security of the movement, can as readily be used to 'hoodwink' the leadership, who thus become unwitting 'front men ' for activities they would never countenance." [from Stephen Knight's "Chinaman" report.]

Of course, a successful psychopath would seek a secure position, one where his job is secure while having the power to indulge in his sick appetites. This position of power may not be of obvious leadership or even recognition.

Psychopaths, I hypothesize, can only gain advance where the members are in someway or other self alienated or mentally ill in their selves. Paranoia is certainly one of those mental dysfunctions, although consisting a great portion in our general population (no bodies perfect). Aspergers syndrome is a little different in that its theory for its causality is birth defect. Aspergers suffers are not usually high achievers but may be desirable by those who need members that lack compassion or sympathy and the socially positive universal ideals...... pardon me, that's not necessarily true http://www.udel.edu/bkirby/asperger/aswhatisit.html there must something in addition to the condition, like bad parenting. The term 'psychopath' does not denote anything more telling that obsessive compulsive disorder or superstition.

'The Erikson life-stage virtues, in the order of the stages in which they may be acquired, are:

hope- Basic Trust vs. Mistrust

will- Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt

purpose- Initiative vs. Guilt

competence- Industry vs. Inferiority

fidelity- Identity vs. Role Confusion

love (in intimate relationships, work and family)- Intimacy vs. Isolation

caring- Generativity vs. Stagnation

wisdom- Ego Integrity vs. Despair

Ego Identity Versus Role Confusion - Ego identity enables each person to have a sense of individuality, or as Erikson would say, "Ego identity, then, in its subjective aspect, is the awareness of the fact that there is a self-sameness and continuity to the ego's synthesizing methods and a continuity of one's meaning for others" (1963) Role Confusion however, is, according to Barbara Engler in her book Personality Theories (2006), "The inability to conceive of oneself as a productive member of one's own society" (158). This inability to conceive of oneself as a productive member is a great danger; it can occur during adolescence when looking for an occupation.
