Dont get me wrong and think im racist or something, but i heard that the reason that most sprinters/football players etc. are african american is because they have developed a different muscle in their leg than other races. is this true?

We as humans have the same bone/muscle structure and African Americans didn't get a special muscle in their DNA.

I would sooner think that they are good at those sports is because football is available at almost every school across the country and college scouts don't discriminate based on socioeconomics, they are looking for good players. As for track and field, it is relatively inexpensive to compete and is one of the sports that you will often find in the inner city. It is also a sport that most school have as well.

Yes there are black hockey players, as well as swimmers and divers. That blows away your theory.

As for you being racist, everyone in this country needs to chill out and realize that just because you ask a question about another race doesn't mean you are a racist.

Different races do not have different muscles.
If it were true that blacks had a different muscle, then it should be true that all blacks would be great sprinters.

Many blacks are very poor runners.
Yes, there are black hockey players in the NHL.

The reason many people participate in a particular sport is culture. Their parents either played the sport or took the children to watch from a very early age.

That is false. The likeliest reason why most sprinters are African American because they play basketball. The art of basketball enables the body's fast-twitch fibres to be focused upon which is used in sprinting.
Jumping requires fast-twitch fibres (for quick movements-think agility). Since they play basketball because of cultural reasons they have the upperhand.

Sprinters DO have a different type of muscle than distance runners, but I doubt that it has anything to do with ethnicity.

No. I did research for an Issues in Contemporary America class about stereotypes like this. It's all psychological. Check out a CNN special about stereotypes for full details.
