For the sake of all you low lifes who want to down my fellow veterans I would like to say. These men and women have given of themselves so you could exercise your freedom of speech. You should be thanking them NOT criticizing them. If you don't like what they have said at my request then you are invited not to answer or judge them with your horrific rating. You are also invited to move to Cuba or Iraq.
I thank all of you veterans who have answered and will answer this question.
May You ALL have a Blessed Veterans Day! Thank You for your sacrifice in war time and peace. God Bless You All!!!

Active Navy (1994-present), Chief Petty Officer
Best memory: My wife pinning the Gold Foul Anchors onto my collar.
Worst memory: Standing on the aft starboard sponson of the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN seeing victims (children and infants included) of the Indonesia tsunami floating dead in the water.
To all who share their comments about the military: It warms my heart knowing that you have the freedom to say what you like without fear of punishment. So say what you want about those who sacrifice for their country. That is why I serve. To aid in keeping that freedom alive for you!

I am a veteran (Army 1968-70) who served in the Vietnam War (1969-70) as a "grunt" (infantryman). My favorite memories are going to Australia on R&R and leaving Vietnam. My worst memories are sleeping in the mud with the leaches (and rats and mosquitos) and having friends wounded or killed.

im currently in the military, tho my medical discharge will be done next month.
I joined the army, and then went to basic in oct 03.
i went on my first trip to OIF in Aug 04
after that i went to OEF in APR 05.
I came home for a week and then went back to OIF the end of OCT 05.
and then... again.... OIF in sept 06 to feb 07
Memories? wow. the day i graduated one of the schools i attended in 05 was by far my favorite memory.... as for the worst? could be getting injured or a number of other things... i try not to let those moments define me.
Edit.
i just figured out my favorite memory...
standing in a c-130, with an MC-1 straped to my back and combat equipment hanging from my waist. Watching the tailgate drop into the dead night and chasing out a load. A paratroopers wet dream.

USN. 1957-1982. One of my best memories came on my retirement date when the civil servants in my department were openly weeping at my departure. Civil servants get a new military boss every three years or so. This open display of emotion was, to me, a rate tribute.
I don't discuss the worst memories openly. Not even with family. Because of law and custom, I will even have to carry some to my grave.

I'm retired, from the Wisconsin National Guard, I served from 1979-1980 in the Indiana National Guard, then from 1980-1990 Active duty in the U.S. Navy, from 1998-2007 in the Wisconsin National Guard. My favorite memories is when I came home in 1984 from Beirut, and got to see my family, then when I got home in 1990 from "Desert Shield." My worst memories were when I was in "Operation Iraqi Freedom IV" with my oldest son, couldn't wait to get the tour over with.

USN, entered the Academy in '04 and will graduate in May. I'll be in the Navy until at least 2013, maybe longer.
Favorite part so far is just meeting and working with so many different people, officers, midshipmen and enlisted, and learning about the service.

Currently a SGT in the Army, stationed in Korea. I have two favorite memories... first being the day I beat my Marine counterparts in our final score during our MOS training, second being my first ride in a Chinook Helicopter. The Load Master took my camera and took some pictures for me out the back.. it was a blast!
