Jesus was put to death. He just didn't die. He allowed himself to be put to death.
If they had not killed him, he would have lived forever, but that was not why he was brought into the world. He was brought into the world to take away the reproach of mankind.
You must understand that Jesus who was without sin, by being put to death, defeated death. He was the innocent lamb of God, the one worthy of resurrection from the dead.
And be Jesus living a life without sin and being put to death, he defeated the hold death held on mankind. So that who ever believes in him, though they die in the flesh, their souls are not cast into the place known as death and hell, but go to be with Jesus.
And on the day of resurrection, Jesus brings the souls of those who died believing in him [1 Thess. 4:14] and reunite them with their bodies that sleep in the earth, changing them from corruptible to incorruptible.
That is why when Jesus said that he who believes in him will never die. For their souls go to be with him.
That is what he meant when he said he who believes in me, though he be dead, yet shall he live.
For we all will suffer physical death. But the souls of those who believe in Jesus go to be with him and await the day of the resurrection.

God's plan to save all people
Hebrews 2:9
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
There are two deaths, one death is the natural death we all face the other is the death for the disobedient in the lake of fire.
Jesus was sinless, but at the last moment when he cried out to the father My God, My God, why have You Foresaken Me, he had the sins of the world on him and the father couldn't look at him.
Jesus is in heaven with the father, the holy spirit dwells on the face of the earth...Jesus is our conncetion to God. He lives!

The story of Jesus is actually based in astrology. That's why a great number of "sun" gods prior to him, like the Egyptian Horus, were born on December 25. At that time of year, the sun dies. It then hovers on the horizon for three days then it is reborn which is the basis of the death and resurrection story.
Take a look at the link below to get more detail. After the opening, which is long unfortunately, it gets into the basis of religions like Christianity. Very interesting stuff.

Let me give you a different perspective then these other comments. Way before the time of Jesus, God told the Jews in the 5 books of Moses in Deuteronomy 13 If a prophet comes and does great wonders (miracles) and says let us worship other gods that the Jews didn't know, don't listen to them. God says he is testing you. and Even goes on to say kill that prophet.God says stone that person to death. Jesus wasn't stoned as god told the Jews, but it wasn't the Jews that killed him. it was the Romans. The 5 books of Moses describes Jesus as a false prophet. And He failed all the criteria of the Messiah according to God. Which is why people like the ones in the New testament made up their own prophecies which are completely foreign To the 5 books of Moses. And when a large portion of the New testament is written by Paul, who never even knew Jesus, you have to question how credible are these people? would you rather listen to what god said when he was witnessed by millions (Torah, aka 5 books of Moses) or would you rather listen to the word of man. (New Testament) which tells you to worship gods foreign to Judaism, and goes against what God taught.

Exactly!
The wages of Sin is Death. The payment demanded by Satan...who is our accuser before God. Yes, we are all sinners, so we all deserve to die. Jesus did not deserve to die, but died anyway...to pay the price. His innocent death covers our deserved death. His sinlessness, covers our sins before our Judge, He is our Advocate and Defender. I thank God for sending His Son, Yeshua.

There are actually two deaths. When Jesus died on the cross He experienced the 2ND death which is total separation from God. That is the death that we will not have to experience if we are Saved. The 2ND death for us will be complete and utter destruction while the earth is being cleaned and made new. I certaintly hope to not experience the 2nd death. Mmm

All living things perish. If people were to study the History of Christianity, they would learn that there were many Gospels that Christianity has ruled out. There are actual Gospels that say that Jesus never died on a cross, that he lived a long life.

That is the core of the mystery of the incarnation.
God the Son became human and was named Jesus. He was fully God and fully human both. The point of His becoming human was to undergo everything we undergo -- joy, dispair, life, and death.
The big question is: How can God die? When Jesus died on the cross, his divinity died right along with his humanity and descended into hell for 3 days.
The fact that He was sinless but suffered and died anyway is exactly what makes us involved in the Kingdom of God right now.

He died to pay the blood price Satan demands for our sins. Ever read the Chronicles of Narnia by CS LEWIS? Read the one entitled The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. It's an easy read, and explains about this...you just have to realize that the Lion named Aslan is a type of Christ, and the Witch is a type of Satan. Once you realize what Yeshua Messiah did for us (Jesus Christ is Yeshua Messiah), you might never want to sin again.
When I understood it all, I wept. God bless!

Jesus was mortal as you and I. He is the Creator Son of God thus Devine, before and after, he died a mortal death as will we. The example is will we survive mortal death as he did or will we not? It's in the choosing you know.
