Probably a ridiculously dumb question, but my mother had my male dog neutered while I was way in college and I was wondering if there was anyway that could be reversed? He means the world to me and I want to carry on his blood line.

Sorry, his testicles are long gone. It's about as permanent as you can get.

It's not ridiculous question because there is such thing as a vasectomy reversal in humans..but a neuter is done differently where the insides are taken out. Unfortunately, there is no possibility for a neuter reversal. I think it's best, however, for your dog to be neutered. Neutering will make him a good house pet, keep him home safe from wandering looking for a female in heat and it may also help lower his risk of disease.

Sorry, too late. Neuter is a surgical procedure to remove the testicles. If you are not showing him, or AKC registered, you shouldn't considering to breed him. Your mom did the right thing. You still can love him and he's still the same dog.

Good for your mother!! Your dog will live a much healthier happier life.
Neutering can't be reversed..it is the complete removal of the testicles.

Why? What's he done that's so special (aside from "being yours") that means he should pass on his genes when there are millions of dogs killed every year because there aren't enough homes?

No, there's no way to "take it back" - the testicles are gone. Even if there were some way to get a testicle transplant, it wouldn't be your dog's genes in them, so it wouldn't "carry on his blood line".

John - there's a WORLD of difference between a vasectomy in humans and a castration in dogs.

Way to go Mom!!! Sorry, but there are way too many homeless pets in the world for you to worry about breeding. I personally think breeding should be banned all together. I love all of my dogs, and they are all adopted, which is the way it should be.

The testicles are long gone now.. How can you reverse a procedure where testicles are removed and discarded? You should have let Mom know how you feel, about your dog's testicles..

Way to go Mom!! Unless he can grow new ones, which isn't likely, then they are gone for good. Breeding is best left to those who know what they are doing and can financially handle the burden.
