Uranium is quite rare and so expensive. It is of course radioactive, and so toxic. But I claim that its main disadvantage is political. Just say the word and people recoil in horror. But people have no problem having natural gas piped into their homes even though it is toxic, a fire hazard and an explosion hazard. Can you imagine if someone proposed putting a small uranium power plant in every house? People would freak out! It is all political and perception. Just like how people are so scared of terrorism but do not worry at all about dying in a car crash, which is actually much more likely.
