The symbol is the Icthys symbol and was no specific fish but merely a password or code in which one christian would mark an arc in the sand and the other party would make the other mark in order to confirm they to were christians. The icthys is greek for Fish and was used because of the teaching that Christ would make us fishers of men.

No it isn't true.

First of all go learn what a "gefilte fish" is.

The symbol that early Christians used to identify each other was a simple outline of a fish. It was quick and easy to draw, and erase if need be.

It comes from the admonition that Christ gave his potential followers when he said, "Follow me and I will make you fishers of men".

that is funny!

They did use a collection of symbols that resembled a fish, but I'm not sure it was a Gefilte fish in particular.
