When the Bon Marche used to do their own baking (they are now called Macy's), they made the exact kind of cheese cake you are talking about. Very firm, you have to hold it on your tongue and let it melt. I've been looking for that recipe ever since.

I've found some close but never quite the same. I'll link your question so I can see other's answers in case someone out there has it.

I found if the recipe requires you to cook it at least an hour and it has lots of cream cheese and sour cream in it - it's probably close to what you remember.
