Are Christians supposed to be circumcised?

Many are, but there's no Scriptural requirement for it. For Christians, it's a choice and not a commandment. Quite a few Christians outside of the United States (where circumcision is somewhat common) remain uncircumcised.

Circumcision has always been practised widely in the Middle East.

It has never been a requirement for Christian men. BUT several studies have now confirmed that women with circumcised partners are highly unlikely to develop cervical cancer. So it's a good thing to consider for any male children you may have; Jewish boys have it done eight days after birth.

In the UK, the Royal family males also have it done. And in fact many other non Jews also.

I like this question... I often wonder why my culture believes it is best to snip off the end of a newborn's penis... then i sigh, because nothing can undo this once it is done. Perhaps, in the future, this will be looked on in the same light as female circumcision, which is quite frowned upon throughout the world...

PS: People still think this is for sanitary reasons! What a hoot...

circumcision is for those living on the Old Covenant. Christians are under the New Covenant.

It's done mostly unthinkingly out of habit because the father has had it done and knows no better.
If you really wanted to be hygienic you could remove people's genitals altogether...circumcision is not necessary for hygiene, washing works great.
Wash or cut?... is washing too much effort?

Nope. It's in Paul's letters, I think to the Galatians or Corinthians or something. He says it's not necessary. In fact he seems rather scathing of the whole thing.

Christians don't have to, it was a requirement in the Old Testament.
Yet I do think that when boys are born the hospital does it automatically because of sanitary reasons.

Didn't you just ask this? Circumcision has nothing to do with Christianity...it's for sanitation reasons.

1Cr 7:19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.

Yes, I think so, even though it was an old testament commandment, I think it still applies. As it says in 1st Corinthians, it won't save you, but when we get to heaven,
we won't care.
