I agee 100%. I really think these questions are from food service providers- waiters/waitresses, salons, pedicurist/nmanicurists etc.
Here's my answer........say NO to tips and tipping. Tipping should be banned across the board.

Yeah, when I go out to eat, I leave 20%, sometimes more if the service was really good, and that's all fine.
Where I have trouble with tipping is in other services, like going to get my hair done, which I absolutely dread when it comes to tipping. First of all, I am bombarded the entire time I'm there with products and other things that they want me to buy, or how my hair is SO dry and needs this treatment or that treatment. So at the end I get a total amount, and then feel I have to tip for the total, even though a bunch of that money is not for services rendered but instead for product. Plus, sometimes I see the salon owner. I've read that you aren't supposed to tip the salon owner, but I don't know how much people observe this rule, and I'd feel weird if I didn't tip, so I do...

I think that some people legitimately have questions on the topic. I would think that people pretty much know how much to tip when they go out to eat, but perhaps they were never taught. However, I also suspect that some people might be looking for a way to get out of tipping or an excuse to be less than generous.

I am.
You tip how much you feel the service was, good gets a good tip, bad gets no tip and a complaint to the manager.

I tip based on service. Good service, good tip; bad service, lower or no tip!
