Of course, it's actually one of the best cardio exercises around!

Its high intensity nature and high impact on legs and kness and your heart make it not a "user-friendly" type of cardio because not everyone is able to withstand the stress......

If you're able to jump, then that's a real bonus because a jump of 15 mins continously equals to running for 30 mins....

Since you've not jumped rope for years and are starting again, be gentle on your knees and legs first......

Jump for 5 mins per session for about 1 week, 3-4 times, to get your heart and body acclamatized to the jump impact.

After 1 week, increase your jump time to 10 mins per session, 3-4 times per week, when your body is more comfortable and stronger and your heart get in tuned to the jump rhythm. Cotinue this routine for 4 weeks.

On the fifth week, increase your jump time to 15 mins per session, 4-5 times per week.

Monitor your target heart rate when you jump so that you don't put too much stress on it.

Here's a guide on how to determine target heart rates: http://www.perfect-body-toning.com/target-heart-rates.html

Jumping rope is really very different from other cardio exercises because of its intensity and impact. If you can continously jump for 15 mins in one session, kudos to you! Not many people can do that!

And you burn 200 calories for a 15 min jump. The jump is really good for your heart too.

I don't jump rope at home much but last year we used to jump rope a lot in PE and so I started to jump rope more. It's a lot of fun. I just have really cheap jump ropes and don't feel like wasting my money to buy new ones.

Indeed, from grade school kids to people who exercise for good health, and boxers especially.

It is one of those things I have never done.
I think if I started it would kill me.
