yes. having the unit vacant for a period of time(anywhere from 30-90 days depending on base policy) means you lose the unit altogether. Also, the military does not pay to store any HHG, nor will any costs incurred moving back 'home' be reimbursed.

At Lejeune, if you are gone for longer that 3 months you have to give up your home.

If you are going to go back home, put all of your stuff in storage. There are usually cheap storage places nearby. Ask other wives in your unit, they will know the good ones. Then about a month or two before he gets home request housing again...and when you are able to get a house take your things out of storage and move them into your house.

Good luck!

you can leave the home as long as you want. if you are going to be gone longer than a few weeks, you normally notify the housing office and MP's and they will check your home periodically. as long as you are paying your housing allowance, they don't care if you're there or not. if you plan on being gone a long time, it may benefit you to move out, that way you will have that housing allowance for something else. of course, you will have to be on the waiting list all over again.

check your local housing rules but i think you can lose your quarters if no one lives in them for 30 days or more, but again, check with housing.
