Ok, duh...but I see answers all the time to questions about how to trim safely where people say, no they need to be sharp. If you don't like sharp don't get a cat. Or cats only need a scratching post, stuff like that. Trying to understand why people keep saying this stuff?!?
I do trim my cat's nails btw :)

Ya, I was hoping one of the people who say don't trim would explain the rational to me, I still hope one will tell me. I don't want to argue it, I just see it sooo much I think some people must really believe it and not just posting to be wise-assed about it. I am curious about all things Cat, so.... IF YOU DON'T AGREE WITH TRIMING CLAWS, TELL ME WHY? I LIKE TO LEARN NEW THINGS:)

I've seen the responses that say don't trim a cat's claws. I don't understand the rationale for that point of view. I basically shook my head and ignored them. My vet taught me how to trim my kitten's claws so I'm thinking she knows what she's doing!
My spoiled princess has 3 cat trees with scratching posts and 3 extra scratching stations around the house. With all this, I trim my cat's nails every 10-14 days. I know it's time when (a) I get a scratch as she jumps on or off my lap or (b) she tries to climb the curtains (lol). She's only made it up the curtains once and I have the cutest picture of her hanging out on the curtain rod.
Like anywhere else, some people here have strong feelings for things that we may not agree with - wet food only? what's the best dry food? brand of litter? I feel free to disagree and do what I think is best for my cat based on what I've learned from my vet, experience and others.

I don't know where you got the idea that you shouldn't trim your cat's nails! If you don't trim them regularly, they will grow AROUND in a circle, and dig back into the pad of the paw. Very painful !! Just be careful when you trim them, but DO TRIM THEM !!

All ours get their claws trimmed when i do my nails--every two weeks. If I wait a month the cat claws get too sharp.

... from what I know, I trim my cat nails maybe once every 2 week.. or whenever they get too sharp....
I think it is no problem to trim your cat nails, but just don't cut their quicks.. that can cause bleeding and pain to cats

It's thew best way to avoid the cat wanting to scratch everything else. Can't understand how someone, unless they're beyond lazy, can say no to that then have them declawed.

You should. It not only keeps them from tearing up furniture (and you), but it keeps their nails (especially dew claws) from getting long enough to cause pain to the animal.

You should! Have you ever had the pleasure of being accidentally scratched by a cat?
