This issue is very controversial. What do you think about illegal immigrants in America being given amnesty? What's your reasoning for it or against it? Or, do you care? Why? Why not?

BTW...

Thanks for all of your responses. They are all quite interesting..some even very amusing..many very passionate..and several very thoughtful and intelligent.
I have a feeling that this issue will not be resolved here. Also, "timjim", what would you like me to call illegal aliens if not illegal aliens?

I think that amnesty is wrong, they are here illegally jumped the border, let their visa's run out whatever, they have no right to claim citizenship. It is a drag on the economy as well as on our medical field.
Those who say that this country was founded on immigration is right, but it is immigration, those people some of our ancestors had to go through screenings, medical histories, name changes, and if you were not healthy or had no skill, then you did not get into the country. That is the difference, immigration was a vastly different than immigration where you jump the fence or force entry.
Amnesty is wrong, this country is strained as is, being 28 knowing that when I retire, SS will not be around, there are enough people on welfare in the country, do we really need to add 12 million more people to welfare?
I understand the generalization, but it is one I am willing to make. I know that not all illegals would take welfare, there are some that will do the jobs that Americans wont, however it is a strain that is not needed at this time.

First of all it wasn't amnesty, because there was exceptions. When giving amnesty, there shouldn't be any exceptions. Yes I am for anything they would give to let these people stay because how are they going to get all them out? And those help the economy and they DO JOBS THAT MOST AMERICANS WON"T DO! Whether you like it or not, that's the truth. People should be able to live anywhere. God created this earth.

I guess this question is controversial everywhere. Most people are not very "happy" about having tons of illegal people given amnesty, when others that may need it more may not get it. Again, it doesn't give a good impression. "Want amnesty? Go to the US!" The problem about it, I guess, is that many people would simply take advantage of that, and that that would be too much.

no they should not be given amnesty. There are legal aliens that can't even become naturalized citizens because of red tape and the bleeding hearts want to give some illegal the okay to live here.

I have a friend that had to cough up $500 to a hospital emergency room when she got hurt when the some-type of alien walks in and was treated for something routine. When my friend refused to pay by saying she didn't have the money up front they told her to leave and she had a separated shoulder not so routine. She threw her credit card on the desk and told them it was descrimination.

I think that all illegals should be sent back to their home countries and if they want to come back they need to do it legally.

It would be am unrealistic goal to send them all back. We have been lax in our laws for to long. So now we have legislation called the Dream Act where persons need to ID themselves to the government and register as legal. The time span I believe is proof of five years residence. Electric bills or something that proves their status. They would need to go into the armed service or then be able to go to school as a legal. They would need to work as a legal. This would assist in taxing these illegal workers who are a strain on our system. They do not pay taxes. They are possible criminals and drug dealers to assist in supporting themselves and steal ID
of other legal people in order to work. So the idea is to make them responsible for work taxes schools and armed services and possible criminal activities would not be an option. Is that Amnesty?

No.

Until those folks get an education, they cannot really work in our society except for very menial work. It sounds harsh, but it is a fact of life that until you do have an education.. you will not do well in this country. You must speak English in this country to survive, and it is the most difficult language in the world to deal with.

Finally this.. the effort to remove the illegal aliens had to functions. It removed a very significant cost from the American Taxpayers, and it gave the Mexican Government a wake up call.... they need to treat their people much better.. they need to educate their people!!

Don't let anyone fool you... Mexico DOES have the money to do those things.

NO!! Should we declare amnesty for anyone else who breaks the law? NO, again. I have no objection to people coming to this country legally. But when illegals are caught I believe they should be deported with no right to return.

I stand very strong on this issue, my son works for INS and I have listened to so many of the problems that happen when we do not enforce our immigration laws. Almost all of our families emigrated to this country at some time in history. I can empathize with people wanting to come here and become citizens. However, those that come and are here illegally then find it easier to break additional laws. That is a sector of our population that does not need to be encouraged. They should go back to their homeland.

i think of the present unlawful immigrants would desire to get amnesty and get they thank you to citizenship very rapidly. the present unlawful immigrants would desire to get the amnesty and all the different immigrants that crossed the border illegally after the effect day of the regulation would desire to then be arrested and back to their usa. Immigrants that have been caught crossing the border illegally would be enrolled on a help checklist that facilitates the immigrant get into the rustic legally and get citizenship to the US.

No they should not be given amnesty. They should come the legal way or not at all. Why??? Illegals take much more out of the system than they put into the system. (not all but most)

No. They don't deserve amnesty. There are many many many brown, yellow and white immigrants waiting patiently for their turn to come to the US. It's not fair to them to let these illegal line jumpers in ahead of them. The issue has been around a long time, especially in areas where illegal aliens have been prevalent for a long time. The problem has gotten more press because the invasion areas have increased signficantly since the last amnesty.
